I love my little Megane RS Trophy! The armrest (the center console one) is a bit of an annoyance, though! It's made of some really cheap plastic that squeaks all the time. I considered changing it, but I figure any replacement from Renault will just be the same. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Can you try a little blast silicone spray on the hinges and wipe the contact points? That helps me normally with anything that squeaks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's not the contact points, it's the whole lid. The plastic is very cheap and it squeaks and cracks any time you apply any kind of pressure on it. Which you do, because it is an armrest.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renault-...-Lid-Cover-Armrest-Arm-Rest-MON-/273115265672 This thing. It seems to be made out of two layers of cheap plastic with air in-between. I was actually thinking of drilling a whole on the inner side and pouring concrete inside or filling it with some kind of foam. Anything that might give it some rigidity.
Oh... well in that case I wouldn’t recommend concrete. Some expanding foam may sort that out? Drill a series of holes in the lower plastic, pump in a load of foam in and then wait for it to set, trim off the excess and a bit of plastic filler to finish. Wouldn’t advise doing it in situ though! Ha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I am sure. If I open the lid and apply pressure to it between my fingers, I get the same noise. It's the hollow plastic structure that's to blame.
Sounds like a good idea. I should probably take it to someone that's handy with these things. Would be curious to know if anyone has done this before.
Hello! Came back to tell you what happened: I found somewhere online that the cause for the squeaky plastic sound is that plastic rubs on plastic. So I used silicon oil (meant for the dashboard) and injected it (using a pharmacy-bought seringe) in-between the plastic bits. I also read that using WD-40 may solve the issue but smells bad. So apple scented silicon oil it was! It is now no longer squeaky! Success!
