Does anyone else have trouble getting their Meganes through MOT with a sports cat fitted? I have a GT Performance sports cat and it keeps failing on fast idle with too much CO (regular idle passes fine so it's obviously doing something). The car is mapped. Considering adding a second sports cat somewhere in the mid-pipe...
My current Megane struggled to pass the emission test the other day and only passed through perseverance from the tester. ( renault specialist ) We got it really hot and held a rag over the exhaust which then passed the test. ( poss slight exhaust leak ) My car is fitted with the same GT Performance 200 cell sports cat. My previous megane passed its MOT with a KTEC sports cat downpipe, where the cat is further along the system.
You can ask them to do the emissions test as soon as you arrive, make sure you've been for a good drive, 30+ minutes
All solved now, the GT Performance Sports Cat just wasn't capable enough. Its never passed since new (tried all the tricks including getting it HOT AF). Added a Magnaflow 200 cel in the mid-pipe and now it flies through.
As well as for the minute (it essentially has 400 cel now), will go Decat in the future. Its funny how much quicker it activated with the magnaflow fitted though. Must have a better grade of materials in it. I spoke to magnaflow and it's EURO 4 rated which helps.
Do you mind me asking how much it was for the 200 cel cat fitting to the mid-pipe and where you got it done ? I’m running de-cat on my R26 I’ve just bought and can’t be bothered with MOT issues so think that could be the cheapest option to add one in for the test.
I ordered the Magnaflow cat from Nemesis UK (they sell 2.5", 2.75" and 3" versions). I had a spare mid-pipe made up a while back with an extra silencer in it for strict track days and luckily that had space at the front. I had a good mate chop it and weld it in for me quickly.
