275 Sport brake pads + discs to recommend

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by oldschoolracer, Nov 8, 2020.

  1. Until now, I used stock discs and pads on my 275 with varying success, basically the brakes are ok on street use at least when they a relativly new. This August I was on Hockenheim on a Trackday when it was really hot, about 28°C . Then the brake was disappointing, hard braking with 200 km/h from the long left to the Parabolica U-turn was a mess......although the brakes were not worn and in good condition so far. Next year, I would like to go there for several times again and want to improve my brakes considerably. Since my car is a daily driver, I would like to find brake pads which are not noisy on public roads, but anyway much better friction figures when racing. Who has similar requirements for his brakes? I also think over using better discs, it should be possible to use bigger ones even in 18" wheels (with Semis, maybe 380 instead of 340???) by keeping the stock calipers and using adapter plates to fit them for the bigger discs. I just found brake discs from performace parts (UK dealer) which are offering plug &play discs which are slotted & drilled, looking nice with phosphated surfaces and should be much better than stock ones - and are much cheaper, around 130 pound a set.

I´m not sure if slotted discs are that advantageous over non-slotted, my brake is a mess in the wet, it takes sometimes one second till it starts to brake with water on the discs, and with further braking progress the brake starts to vibrate like hell. This behaviour was already when the brake was almost new. I suspect that the reason are the slots, which are positioned in an regular order and therefore prone to initate the brake to vibrate. Probably is here somebody who knows the difference between discs with and without slots and the related behaviour. Any recommendations about optimizing the brakes are strongly appreciated, thanks !

  2. Try Brembo solid 09.A752.11 with maybe Winmax 5 or something from Pagid, Endless, Ferodo (DS1.11), Performance Friction, Carbone Lorraine plus handful others out there

  3. even renault binned the grooved disks in favor for the plain items on 275`s.The main reason is the grooved disks act like a cheesegrater, wearing out pads rapidly.I have seen on track tests which suggest plain disks perform just as well as slotted/drilled items...afterall you are removing surface area on the disks when you slot/drill them.I think you will get good results with very good fluid like castrol srf and a better pad like all the items that bobsan mentioned.
I currently are using the ds111..which i find excellent..even on the road, with the DS uno..being another good choice, with a slightly better endurance on the track.

The only set up i have found that works on track is Carbon Lorraine 8's with plain Brembo disc's, i have tried Performance friction Z rated, PBS and at the moment i have DSuno's in there, they are okay better than the others but not as good as the CL8's.
I did Oulton Park with the Uno's and they were adequate, better when it was wet :laughing:
