250 Speakers not working.

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by Grey Cup, Jan 19, 2014.

  1. The speakers in my Megane 250 are not working, my head unit comes is fully operative, but no sound. Do the speakers have their own fuse or could it be a wiring problem? Any advice greatfully received thank you.

  2. I take it you've tried all the inputs (e.g.radio, cd, aux?)

  3. As you probably guessed I am a keen amatuer so any advice greatfully received, didn't think of the inputs, will give that a try next, thank you.

  4. Oh well tried the inputs and taken the unit out of dash, all wires seem fine, any other ideas? I have also noticed that since I have had the car I have kept hearing a high pitched whistle, like a sort of sound effect, since the problem noted above occured I have lost this whistle and engine sounds more natural, would this be connected?

  5. If the headunit seems fine and the wires all connected at the back correctly then the only other thing would be the speakers themselves but I would have thought it unusual for them to both blow together? Ideally you need a multimeter to check anything is actually making it to the speakers. Sounds like a job for an in-car audio place now.

  6. It could be one of those Can Bus cables or what they are called. in my last car (NOT A RENAULT), when i left it for service, the mechanics accidentally disconnected this cable and all stereo functions were offline. it could be anywhere under the dash of the car. So it is not sure that it is seen just by remove the head unit.

i would do as Sargara says and test everything with a multimeter to start with.

hope it solves for you mate.

  7. have you checked the connections on the back of the speakers? one of my speakers stopped working on my R26 this was due to the connection being slightly corroded, may be worth a look.

  8. I take it you've not got a spare speaker lying around.. If you have, you could try popping one of the fronts out, using a bit if wire and see if it's faulty. I can't see it being the speakers though as you've got at least 4 in the 250! Mine has 8, they can't all go at the same time!

    Have you also checked fuses?

  9. I have now called in an audio specialist, we have been able to confirm the head unit is fine, the amp and sub are working as well (sorry should have mentioned after market units fitted) we even did some tweaking of the speaker cables, got each one to work separately, the specialist now thinks its a Canbus or wiring issue, he has taken notes and photos as he feels he needs to check and research what to do next, should have some answers next week. Thank you everyone for your answers/posts.

  10. Lol, u could have said it's not standard

  11. Thought I had said it was non standard as it was on my mind when I completed my first post, but realised I hadn't! I bought the car with the standard head unit, upon collection I found an amp and sub in the boot, a little while later I found an In phase equaliser in the glove compartment and today that the tweeters and front speakers had been replaced, the original rear speakers being wired in with a Canbus adaptor being added, my specialist is now researching the system and I am now more confussed!
