Attended the Southport Air show on Saturday. Although it is only 50 miles from home, it took 4 hours to get to the car park. Sefton Council is apparently to blame - they didn't expect anybody to turn up it seems. This is the last season of the Vulcan flying - I believe the air-frame is out of hours and nothing can be done sadly.
Stunning pics! We went this year and last, last year we did the same as you, sat in traffic on the a59 all the way there, got there, had to dump the car on the side of the road and walk about 2 miles to get to the front lol. So, this year, we went on Friday, stopped in a hotel, ( the duke folly ) surprisingly good for £50 a room, superb fry up as well, and headed to the beach for 1pm ish, que'd up for a bit, and watched it from the beach, enjoyed the day, only wish we'd booked the hotel for the Saturday night as well, then I could have had a few beers!
That sounds like a better idea. I'm sure you had a few beers on the Friday though, no? When I got to the car park I was furious - Preston to Southport in 1st gear, seriously. The clutch in the Trophy isn't the lightest although not as heavy as my old 172, but 3 hours of pushing it in and out every few seconds taxed my love of the car tbh. They're not good in traffic - even the stop/start started pissing me off because it throttles the AC back, so that was turned off. Missed some of the first part of the show because we were too far away in the jam. Although I probably shouldn't, I voiced my wrath at any and all of the marshals/organisers I could find. I was seriously upset. Sefton Council organise this event and apparently it's always like this, yet the staff didn't give a toss and nobody had a clue how to improve matters. The lady collecting the over-priced car park fee had no idea that she alone at this point was holding up several miles of traffic trying to get into the event. She sauntered around like she had all the time in the world. She, and all the others responsible should have been made to stand 50 feet behind the Typhoon on a static engine test on full re-heat.
http://www.yorkshireairshow.co.uk/ Not so, if you fancy a trip down the M62 this weekend. Be warned though, they don't push it anymore. The Olympus engines are throttled well back.
cheers pal. Got no chance of doing that du to other stuff, going to Duxford on Friday though for my dads 70th
That sounds shit mate, I'd be pissed off with it, when we qued up, the family in front of us, got to the Marshall at the gates only to find out he was in the wrong que! Tickets only this one, go back and join the other que, he was fuming and let them know, for such a big event the organisation was poor, at least that part of it was, one marshal checking tickets for thousands! and yes I had plenty of ale the night before, but a few cold ones would have gone down well on the Saturday, and pmsl at the car park attendant comment ha ha
I was pissed off Bill mate, seriously. Wife kept telling me to calm down before I got arrested. It was a nice event once we'd got in, but I seriously don't think I'll go again. Southport itself seemed fairly nice - might have a run out again when the airshow's not on. Cheers for the comments guys.
i was quite impressed with southport, some reason I had it down as being a shit hole, far from it, very nice! If you go again, I'd seriously consider doing what I did, I'm sure you don't need telling that though. dont suppose your car Reg ends ohd or similar lol?
Xanda73 with regards to me thinking I'd spotted you on the a59, it's not lol, seen a picture of your car in another thread, keep seeing an og megane passing my way Reg ending ohd/Chd or simialr
