Snow Foam (Technique)

  1. Hey folks, pretty new to this car detailing, and proper cleaning malarky, so be patient with me! Slowly building up my supplies and products at the moment..

I bought a snow foam lance yesterday along with some Gtechniq W4 snow foam stuff..

What at are people's views on snow foaming and the best way to go about using it? I presume you go on dry with it instead of pre-pressure washing before so it doesn't all just slide off!? - Anyway, I'm all ears!

    Thanks,

    Henry

  2. I would advise rinsing with your pressure washer first, snow foam, rinse then shampoo etc. I am sure someone more in the know will correct me though.

  3. What James said:smiley:

  4. When the foam is on get a detailing brush and get in nooks and crannys. I also use a noodle mit to do the sills and wheels while the foam is on the car.

  5. Cool, thanks for the pointers... Was looking at some citrus pre wash too for the really stubborn stuff on sills etc.

Was thinking citrus pre wash on lower half of car, then pressure wash, then snow foam, then pressure wash, then normal wash routine..

  6. I've just bought some pre wash (G101) but haven't used it so can't comment on its effectiveness but was just planning on using this instead of snow foam when I don't have access to it.

  7.
  8. Cool, thanks.. Seems there is varying results with it.. I suppose it depends strongly on the level of pretection already in the car as to how well it works?

  10. Don't get me wrong foam is a bit of fun so why not, plus it doesn't do any harm. If you enjoy using it then why not.

I'm not fussed and will just stick with the pre-wash but don't blame anyone for using foam.

  11. Just be reading on detailing world about the proper application.. Seems like applying to a dry surface is best according to the guy that works for Gtechniq.. Lots of people seem very happy with it so looking forward to trying it.

Dry surface for snow foam for me, Always.

I have binned it now though, A good citrus pre-wash is FAR more effective.

  13. Is that because it's harsher though? The Gtechniq stuff is PH neutral etc... Again, excuse my detailing nievity!

At the right dilution it isn't any more harsher than some of the stronger snowfoams.

Best cleaning foam is probably BH auto foam. People also tend to make the mistake and think that a very thick snowfoam will clean better. I like mine to be runnier when i do use it as it actually drags the dirt of the paint that way instead of just sitting on it

  15. Yeah, the W4 stuff is a bit thinner.. For the reasons you mention!
