Following a remap, my 225 is running 315 ft/lbs and surprise surprise, the clutch is now slipping in high gears. I've got a hybrid plate and cover coming that will take up to 360 ft/lbs. All seems well....until a call from a buddy who says it actually might be the dmf starting to fail as they are torque rated. So, 2 options, new dmf and dial back the torque, OR, convert to a SMF which will obviously cope with the torque and last the life of the car. So where can I source a SMF conversion for my car? Clutch and slave are being done next week regardless, so I might as well have the SMF fitted at the same time. Lux do a dmf kit for £276. What price a SMF swap?? Suggestions, comments and advice greatly appreciated.
engine dynamics or rs tuning for smf. Could get a 1.9 dci clutch or r26r one. Got mine booked in at engine dynamics for smf, r26r clutch, slave and fluid, EML map out (if required) and labour for £1025.
Yes I saw the lightened smf from e-d. Very impressive design and manufacture. Best price around that ive seen. I'm getting a clutch made up from KAM racing which is a dual composition and can handle far more torque than the r26r plate. So I'm going for that set up. Similar price including the above plus short shift fitted and a new swivel hub. Then I'm done. 285 bhp and 315ft/lbs will do for now.
I would be looking to have the torque lowered to 290 ish if your on a stock engine mate. Your be replacing the rods as well as the clutch !!
Hi there. Yes, I keep hearing about the 300 bhp OR ft/lbs limitations on the rods. Has anyone actually experienced con rod failure running these numbers, or is it a definitive stress tolerance figure laid down by Renaultsport?
Not a tolerance from Renault mate. Its just the safe limit of the rods is well known to be 290 ish torque. Mine is mapped to 270bhp 280 torque and is considered safe for track work. It's not just the rods that are weak on these engines it's the piston ring lands that are a common failure. To be fair though lots running your figures without any problem so it's a gamble! If you drop the torque to 290 ish and have some mechanical sympathy it should be fine
Thanks for the info. I'm not keen on lowering the torque as it's so addictive, more so once the smf, short shifter and clutch are fitted. I would rather go the forged route and keep the performance. It only my daily drive, never tracked or raced, but do like the odd blast just to put a grin on my face!! Looking at prices from Kam racing and engine dynamics, its probably only a grand to upgrade the weak components and then its ' bullet proof'. For a car that once done,can be as fast as what i have, for 5k, I'm happy! It's all about getting the original car cheap enough, which I did. Always buy at Christmas when people need money lol.
