Small Active Sub vs New Speakers. Who's fitted what?

  1. I've long had an itch to improve the sound system in the car, not looking for much, happy to stick with the standard speakers and get an active sub, or just buy new speakers and leave the sub. What do you all recommend?

  2. Well I went a bit farther than i planned...

I started out just wanting a small under seat sub but wasn't convinced it would be much cop when you look at the size of them, so I went for new component speakers up front and a sub and amp in the back. I was going to keep the standard headunit to keep some purpose in the top display but that didn't pan out either, the crappy wiring + the really crappy headunit meant the amp was picking up all the interference from the Renault wiring and sounded awful so in went a Pioneer unit and everything was good but that was £800 later...

I had to change those front speakers they were so bad, it cost me that much as I went for decent stuff all round, could have saved a lot getting the Halfords items.

Sounds great though but still can here a slight wine through the front speakers when very quiet.

  3. I think you'd be wasting your time with new speakers without an amp to power them. Just get the active sub fitted and then see how that sounds would be my suggestion.

It's something I'm considering myself - please keep thread updated if you do decide to make some improvements.

  4. I had an expensive Kenwood double din head unit,2 amps, plus Under seat sub. Now have pioneer Single din,£99 Halfords,no amps/subs. I use Apple car play,( Not bad) USB, (Better) and in ear phones. I am a HiFi nut,and can safely say, that this set up is 100% better.

  5. Speakers on its own will not produce enough Bass due to the size, 5.25" i think are yours. Small sub with good speakers will produce nice sound. I have the optisoind 8 in the boot, 4 db audio t-rex 5.1 speakers running trough genesis profile 4 amp and pioneer double din headunit, had to drill holes to pull soeaker cabels from car in to the doors plus had to extend speaker more out intu the car due to size if magnets, my car is an r26. I di not listen to loud car shaking music, the small sub will not shake your windows but will give deepness to your music

  6. Originally I fitted a big 12" active sub in my 265. But changed it for a vibe optisound 8 underseat sub. It wouldn't fit under the front seats so I have fit it in the spare wheel well. Surprisingly good sound from such a small sub. Makes the terrible standard sound system sound much better and acceptable for a 25k car
