Spoke to them today with regards to a quote on a new motor. (335d xdrive msport and 330d m sport). Bare in mind these are my current insurers on my meg, Wouldn't touch me because i have never owned a rwd or 4wd car. They then rang me back to say they didnt see them as high performance cars BUT and this is the amazing thing if i performance modified the 330d they would insure me. Now im still confused how this works, firstly wouldn't touch me as i had 'no' rwd experience but if i made the rwd car more powerful i may get a quote. Honestly this insurance market needs a good shake or there will be more and more uninsured drivers risking it.
I had the same problem when i tried to insure my Mercedes, Chris Knott were offering to insure anyone on the Mercedes forum, i phoned and they declined point blank, eventually ended up getting insurance with Saga and for a very reasonable price. Chris Knott did try a quote the following year but it was nearly twice Saga's price.
