Should I buy a Megane F1?

Discussion in 'Megane Discussion' started by Markburden, Oct 8, 2017.

  1. Hello gentlemen. I've just been offered a megane F1 2006 plate for £2800 . It has a couple of small issues , one of which is the brake sensor which I can't find much information about online. Is this an expensive problem?
I don't know much about these megane F1 so I have a few questions.
Are these the top of the range or most sought after versions ?
    Are they particularly rare ?
And finally is this a good price to pay for one ?
    Thanks .

  3. Yes it is an r26, blue with 100k miles, water pump recently replaced and timing belt changed at 70k .
Are these a rare car ?

No they are not that rare but great fun to drive and come alive on a track with a few subtle mods, drive it and enjoy it :sunglasses:

£2800 seems a good price if it's not beaten up

  5. They are an epic car !!! Love and its a great all rounder

  6. It depends on what you want to use it for?

then no. it'll probley blow up lol

  9. They are rare imo, been commuting to work in mine for 3 months, did a 700 mile round trip to Cornwall aswell and not seen another one anywhere!

  10. The r26s are defo rare vehicle and not common even round southend area and thats saying something lol. I have seen 1 in 2 and half months round here/essex and i do 4 hours driving a day roughly

  11. I've never seen an r26 on the road, but they've not been on my radar for long so I probably wasn't looking hard enough!
What is the rarest special edition megane mk2 ?
My car collection consists of a mk1 escort rs 2000, a fiesta Rs 1800 and a Saab 900 ruby turbo so it's fair to say I like cars with a bit of exclusivity.

  12. If I don't get a megane then it will be a toss up between a Clio Williams or a uno turbo .

  13. R26R was the flagship...a lightened, totally track orientated car..but cost you 20k.

The R26 was a evolution, starting with the 225,trophy,f1,with the R26, being a well developed weapon ,which was class leading for handling.

Even now,a clean R26 with a few select mods ,will keep up with far more expensive machinery on the open road.

This type of hot hatch will soon be a thing of the past, with people wanting all round packages, not no compromise road racers like the R26.

I expect values of good examples to start commanding good money soon.
Seen a few low mileage examples being advertised for 8-9K lately.

Bottom line...if its straight, you wont find anything else for the money that offers the type of driving package a R26 does.
If you find a good one..snap it up.

  14. Yeah I've seen an R26R on eBay for 20k , well above my budget. R26 over an F1 then ?
I like my cars how I like my steak.... rare and slightly dangerous

  15. I can't think of anything in the price range that can put a bigger smile on my face. Well I can but that's for another forum. [emoji16]

  16. F1 doesnt have the LSD.
The R26 is the one to have.

I used to have a 900 T16S bit like in your picture Mark, tuned it up with 9000 aero intercooler and custom pipe work, eventually killed that engine but it had done 190k miles by then. I have an R26 and its a surprisingly different car, handling and braking in a different universe let alone league, it will fell like a race car and can worry them as well on track days. Very very strong heavily built body shell hence the 5 star NCAP safety, beyond that though the quality is truly depressing compared to old skool SAAB. I think the best way I can describe these cars is that the most extreme end of everything good and bad that you hear about them is true.

R26 is definitely what you want, mental performance bargain at current prices.

Uno turbo, now your talking had 4 in the past and one was the anti skid version, now if i had that one back :sunglasses:
I had been looking but i feel £10k is a bit steep to pay for a reasonable one and then to use on track i think not.

  19. A mate had one in the 90’s and I loved it, it was a quick car as standard but by the time he crashed it, it had been totally stripped out and holes drilled everywhere and was pushing out close too 200 bhp. Nothing and I mean nothing could keep up with it, showed up everything from cossies to 911’s.

Same here, only had slight tuning, lowered it, 15 inch wheels low profile tyres, stuck like s*** to a blanket, so would like another one but not for that sort of price there asking

  21. I thought the F1 had the LSD.?

  22. In Australia they’re known as:
    • F1 = no LSD
    • F1 R26 = with LSD

    Same in GB?

We never got the R26R by the way.

  23. Here in uk theres either
    Megane 225
    Megane 230 r26 F1.

The later has an lsd. Somebody please correct me if im wrong

  24. there was 225 first..no lsd.
    then trophy..no lsd
    then F1...no lsd
finally F1R26 and R26R..both with LSD.
