Cars coming upto 41k on the clock and 6 years old. Renault are telling me the Cam belt and water pump will need doing as well as a major service. One dealer has quoted me £948 for both and one just £999 for cam belt and water pump! Has anyone in Surrey/Hampshire area (I live in Farnham, near Guildford) been quoted better or recommend a good dealer. Really don't want to be splashing out that much or might see if i can get the service done the following month
Just got a quote for them, was around £650 so more than Renault :/ Got a quote from a mobile mechanic on whocanfixmycar.com for £395 which is a bit better
gmauluka Andy Cochrane can do this for you if you are interested, he is still doing private work, his work is first class, I won't go anywhere else with mine. Mick at diamond motors in long Eaton is really good. Took my gf's 200 there just for the cambelt which was £400 odd so wouldn't think it'd be much more. Worked out cheaper getting it done there then rentech which is only round the corner from me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Surely this is a fairly basic, albeit time consuming job, that any decent garage can do? There's nothing any more specialised about it than any other car.
Jaime, I live far far away from Europe but interested to know yours and everyones opinion on K Tech, bought from them a lot of parts (not worried because they are just parts) but I don't seem to find positive comments about them so I am thinking I souldn't but from them tool & remap..
The crank pulley is of a floating design (no key) and they need to use the correct locking tools. Many garages will attempt to change the belt without the tools and almost certainly mess up the timing. I've even had this on a K4J in a Megane II - back street garage couldn't time it right despite 3 goes. Took it to a specialist (Birchdown) who had it right straight away, and showed me where the cowboys had shoe-horned screwdrivers into the cam ends to try to lock them up. Car was atrocious with timing out - used to cut out at low revs off load and the fuel consumption doubled. Had to take the garage to the small claims court (and won) for money to put right. The F4R in my 172 wasn't timed properly either by a main dealer after they replaced the head. Don't take them to a back street garage for a belt change
I won't even buy parts off them. They charged my card for Eibach springs and then couldn't tell my when I would expect delivery. It was over a month before they shipped them and the customer service was terrible. I certainly wouldn't take my car there, but then I live at the other end of the country.
Another recommendation for Mick at diamond motors. Had my 6yr service last month. Inc the water pump & dephayser pulley I paid just under £600. I supplied my own OEM oil and filter and Mick only ever uses OEM parts direct from Renault. He has zero mark up on parts so you'll get them at trade. He also told me that the timing needs pukka Renault timing tools that non-indie specialists won't have. It's probably 2.5 hrs tops from yours to Long Eaton but well worth it.
