Service history

  1. I have a 07 plate R26 with 45k on the clock and I'm due a service.
It has full service history (not Reno) with a folder full of receipts amounting to thousands for work done.
Now do I service it myself (mechanical engineer by trade) keep all the receipts and put them in the service book or fork out the extra to maintain the history and that all important stamp?

    What are people's thoughts?

  2. If I was looking at a car and it had service stamps by the owner I think receipts to back up what was used would be fine for a car of that age. A Renault stamps won't increase value anymore.

I would only only want timing and auxiliary belts done by a specialist so I know it's been timed properly. Just what I'd look out for anyway.

  3. Ditto - Mines an 06, 49k, and have done this since I purchased the car a couple of months back..

Had the belts etc. done at Beaniesport and have receipts to prove, carried out full service myself prior to belt change retaining receipts and writing mileage on them as to when work was done - marked as such in the service book.... why line Renault's pockets, as Pagey says not going to add to the value given its age now.. Did the same with my old 172 and still got good money for it when I sold it on..

Mine hadn't always been main dealer maintained either. Maybe a different story if always been MD maintained...

    gets my vote

  5. Thanks for the input gents.

  6. I asked similar on meganesport a few months back.

I have owned since new and have all of the paperwork and receipts etc. It's now 5 yrs old and out of warranty. I don't think the renault stamp was worth the premium and to be fair, an Indy or a yourself would take more care and effort with your car.

I opted to to do the last service myself. It was the 37.5k so pretty simple. I used renault parts from Ads and decent oil (Fuchs Titan Pro Race). All receipts are in a folder. I have entered the details into the service book myself, inc intermediate oil changes. The next one is a timing belt so it will probably go to an Indy, mark black if anyone.

Incidently, of the two dealer services it had, both dealers put their stamps in different books. Ie one did theirs in the service part of the manual and the other did theirs in the service log book. Dickheads!

  7. The belts had already been done with all the receipts, so don't need to worry for a while.

I serviced the car anyway when I first got it just for piece of mind, but this is the first scheduled service.

Like you said it's different when it's your own car and your servicing it, a bit more love goes into it!
