So i went a drive today, was probably sitting between 1-1.5 hours which to be honest i dont really think should cause back aches, but it does. It wasn't just me, my girlfriend also was complaining about the same issue. I have the heated leather seats (not recaro) they are fine day to day but in my old car which was a fiesta ST I drove a 4 hour trip down to England and only when we were arriving my back just started to ache a little.. Is there anything i can do bar changing the seats lol?! Like adding extra padding or something?
I know exactly were you're coming from. I had the same problem with the Recaros in my R26 when I first got it. After the 2 hour drive back from where I bought it, my lower back was quite painful to the point where my certain movement would cause quite acute pain. I do have a little bit of back pain anyway in everyday life but the seats just seemed to exacerbate it. At one point, I even considered changing the seats but I realised that was silly so I learned to get used to the seats and now they don't bother me as much on short to medium journeys. On really long journeys, I still get some pain but it's not as bad as when I first got the car.
Have you got the lumbar support set right? If not you'll get back ache. I knackered a disk in my back and the Meg's seats are about the only normal seat I can sit in for any length of time. Much more comfortable than the Recaros in my 200.
I think they are the standard seats but heated and in full leather trim Jamie. Not recaros. But I dunno if the padding is great especially on the driver side as it's went a bit baggy where your bum sits already.. Cars not even done 40k and I weigh about 11 stone at the most and the only other owner I bought it off was about the same. I'll try playing about with the lumbar support. I take it the recaros are less comfortable then haha? They don't look like they'd be tbh. And I'm only 23 by the way!
Sorry i completely skimmed over the post and missed the fact you said standard seats. Having sat in both the stock seats are definitely comfier and they are also pretty supportive. I find the Recaros pretty comfy, Even on long drives. I didn't get a sore back at all on the trip from up here to Spa, Just get a numb arse.
To be fair they look like the should be really comfy! I'll just have to spend more time mucking about with them in different positions to see. Nobody else sits in it anyway so I can't even blame them haha, no one gets to touch my baby
Funny thing is my meg 250 seats are the same, they're like yours, non recaro with leather and are heated. I think there the most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat in, I don't think it's the lumbar, they're too firm, I would swap for a fabric set lol
Sounds silly but make sure your posture is correct. Slumping , sitting too close or too far away, having your seat laying too far back. All of these can cause back ache. I sit so that at full depression of the pedals my leg isn't straight and the same with the steering wheel with my seat not bolt upright but not lying down. Use reach/rake seat back tilt and sliders to make sure your Sat in a neutral position.
Can't really comment on the standard seats but the recaros are ok, you do however get a numb arse after a long trip
And me. Worrying now that the only car I can sit in is a Meggers RS standard seats. Tried A45 AMG [recaros] [were okay had 7 years of Recaro's in VXL's GS and Vixers okay] this time no good. Audi RS Q3 Leather S line sports seats. Back went again. Flogged the car back to dealer and bought a demo RS265 BLISS again. Mainly German seats cause backache or full leather. Best wishes with your posture. May take a while to acclimatise the back. Cheers Andy
I'd agree with this. I find the Meg 2 not ideal for driving position. Took me a while to get the reach and take right. When I bought the car I must have got it spot on because I drove it back from Aylesbury to Glasgow without any fuss. My short ass wife drove the car and adjusted the seat. I put it back to where I thought it was and within 20 mins of driving to work I was aching. I've got it right again now and hardly any real difference but just a little bit of extra stretch or compression in the wrong place and you'll notice it eventually. A poorly setup seat also makes you stretch your neck and sit outside of the design of the seat which leads to back ache. All that said, some seats just fail to suit everyone's frame and shape. Personally I'm much better with car seats than u am with normal seats.
Agree, the lumbar adjustment just pushes out the middle of the seat, you still find yourself slouching lower back is bent and not upright. On long journeys I found myself pushing my stomach forward to straighten my posture. Try this http://www.halfords.com/motoring-tr...at-covers-cushions/halfords-mesh-back-support Helped me a lot on long trips, supports your lower back.
With me I have the seat as loe as it will go. Then I put my leg so that it doesnt lock out fully with the clutch fully down. Then I adjust the back rest pretty much straight and then bring the wheel back so that my wrists can sit on top.
