Hello gents, I am not particularly handy with a spanner but I attempted replacing my brake pads today. Fronts were a breeze and got done in about and hour. The rears however, were not so ideal. I somehow managed to get the passenger side wound back (with the rewind tool) but the other side is seized tight. The question is, how do I go about releasing it ? I have it off the car but i'm not sure if I can remove the seal to get a look inside and get some wd-40 or something in there to release it. Any help would be great as a chap from my dad work is going to have at it on the workshop tomorrow morning. PS. I have an R26
Some cars have opposite sided threads on the pistons so it may be that one side is right handed to retract and the other could be left, most rewind kits contains both direction tools. Having said that I haven't a clue if the megane has that setup, I'm sure someone more in the know will correct me.
The TRW rear calliper is a nightmare when this happens. All you can do really is persevere with it using loads of penetrating oil OR replace the calliper.
Mine was seized on my 250. Just pull the handbrake lever a few times and the piston will pop off. Give it all a good clean and then rebuild and you should be sorted
I couldn't move mine with just the rewind tool, not enough length on the bar to get leverage on it, get a spanner and put the bar of the rewind tool through the closed end of the spanner, it'll give you a lot more leverage.
Thanks for the reply gents. The chap from my dad work managed to get the caliper rewound with easy as he had it clamped in. No my problem is that i threaded the hole for the brake line in the caliper! It is getting re-tapped at the moment but assuming all goes to plan i will need to bleed the system a touch to make sure there is no air in the system. The question is, does the rubber nipple just pull off or is there technique to it ? Sorry for the noob question. Like I say im not usually one for doing this stuff myself but money is tight and I like to do things myself when I can.
Thank for all the help boys but it looks like I will need a new caliper; the brake line is still leaking. I have sourced some RS250 rears on ebay but are they the same ? they look identical in the photographs and is also made by TRW.
I am having the same problem, my rear ns caliper is seized Does anyone know if this caliper (part no: 133746191) from ECP will do the job? http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/R...613c01e3ee19bd40abf3c5b12278bcd17f1c&1&000048
Yes that is a TRW calliper as per what Renault would supply so will be fine but it won't be red/black.
After speaking to ECP, it turned out that the calipers listed for the R26 (ATE and TRW) aren't the correct parts and don't work. So, it seems that good ol' Ads is the way to go
