225 Seat airbag warning light

  1. For those that have swapped normal seats (with airbag) for Recaros (without), or just happen to know, how do you get rid of the airbag warning light for the seats?

I still have my leathers but I have the light due to the crappy wiring under there... which the dealer kindly offered to replace for £180 (I think it was). For a small length of wiring!!

I did ask if they could just turn off the circuit for the seat airbags but they said this can't be done (though I interpreted this as "we won't do it and can't advise you to" ). So my next port of call was the notion that guys trading up to Recaros must get rid of that light somehow...

    Any thoughts?

  2. Have you used the wires/pre-tensioner that came with the Recaro's?

On the Clio's you could put a resisor in to get rid of the light but unsure if this works on the Megane.

  3. Nooo I haven't fitted Recaros, I still have my full leathers, but I was hoping that those that HAVE fitted Recaros might have come up with a workaround to get rid of the light (assuming that the circuit looks for an airbag and, since the Recaros don't have airbags, they did something to either trick that circuit or block it).

  4. Nickson has fitted Recaro's to his might be worth to send him a PM. I'm sure the light wont come on using the Recaro wire loom.

Or you could try one seat? only takes 10 minutes to swap a seat over.

  5. Ah right I see... so the Recaros come with a loom that might deactivate it itself.
I mustn't be explaining my predicament properly... I'm not fitting Recaros at all, I am keeping the full leathers that I have, I just want to bypass the airbag circuit so the light goes off and stays off - because my wiring is apparently naff and I refuse to pay £180 to replace it for the sake of not having a warning light (since I don't believe seat airbags are necessary anyway). :/

  6. Ahhhh i see now!

Yeah the recaros have their own loom but thats £240 new!

Pretty certain the airbag can be turned off using a CLIP, also if your wiring is shot you could try a breakers for a second hand loom?

  7. I figured that with my luck the second hand loom would go the next day, as they are dodgy from the factory (as with all Renault wiring).
For a CLIP would it have to be main dealer or should any mechanics know how to do it?

  8. You should be able to get a loom from Ren-Parts and they give you a warranty.

Some specialists might have a CLIP, i think some forum members do aswell. Its a Renaut diagnostic tool and not every garage will have one as the cost a fair wedge!
