265 Rubbing (metal to metal) at low speed, Any Ideas?

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by mikescott265, May 8, 2014.

  1. Last couple of weeks I've been hearing noise from the drivers side at low speed (only heard with window down). Its definitely metal to metal kind of sound, so i thought pads. Not properly checked but theres no scoring on the discs from metal to metal contact. It does get slightly louder when turning, which makes me think it isn't related to the brakes.

Pretty sure i can't hear it above 30ish mph, and only heard with the window down, so it isn't really noisy but theres something up and i want to sort it sooner rather than later!

Its a 265 only 10 months old, only 4800 miles on the clock? No track days etc.

Anybody have any ideas? Will go to renault under warranty, but id rather have an idea of what it is before i go/ sort it myself!

Could be, stranger things happen, take it to your local dealer and see what they say

  6. Il get it booked in. Just wondering if its something as innocent as ryan says the lsd? Ive heard its characteristic of lsds to make noise at low speed? Metal to metal though i don't know!
Like you say mark stranger things happen, just you wouldn't think at such low mileage

  7. Second thought doubt its lsd as thats more of a clicking sound i think?

  8. Bearing on mind Mark knows these inside out, I'd be fairly happy with the diagnosis!

  9. I know mate, seen him on the forums always highly recommended, was just wondering incase it was something innocent and i didn't need to take it in! Booked in for next friday anyway, there giving me a courtesy car too. Id put money on it not being a RS, I'm going for 1.2 clio what a step backwards haha

It could be a wheel bearing but that would make a rumbling at higher speeds

  11. Its usually the first few hundred yards of the journey. Recently it could any point of the journey, it does seem to be very intermittent and only heard at low speeds. Yeah mark theres nothing at higher speeds. Theres no rumbling/vibration whatsoever (regardless of speed). If i couldn't hear something (and thats only with window fully down anyway) you wouldn't think anything was wrong. Drives superb as it always has nothing changed!

  12. If or when you identify the fault please share with the rest of us.

  13. A quick update, been keeping an eye on it the last week and noticing it after lifting off the brake pedal it's louder, before quietening down some times disappearing. Pretty sure it's coming from the drivers side rear too, any ideas?

its going in on Friday anyway, hopefully they get to the bottom of it. If anyone has any ideas of what it could be it would be appreciated! Just so I can tell the dealer, etc and try and get it sorted quick as possible!

  14. Had it looked at today, been a drive with the mechanic and as Sod's law would go, not a sound haha! They had a check round and nothing. Visual health check they do brought something I found odd. Break pad wear is more on the back than the front? 9mm left on front 8mm on the back. Is this in keeping with anyone else?

  15. Rears are usually thinner to start with though?

  16. I think is the brake pads.

  17. That would make more sense! Says on the sheet front and rear new are 14mm
