Hello All, I've recently purchased my first Megane, a Renaultsport 265 Trophy, I figured I'd start a project thread as I enjoy browsing others and I'd like to contribute. I'll start with my car history and the reasoning behind my love affair with Renault's - this was as a result of my uncle who worked for a number of Formula 1 teams including Mclaren, Benetton transitioning to Renault and finally Red Bull. His most successful period at Renault saw him purchase a Clio 182 and I was instantly attached. This saw me purchase a Clio Dynamique 1.2 16v as my first car: I made some small modifications trying to subtly reflect a 172 and owned the car for three years: Unfortunately my house got burgled when I was on holiday, and sadly my Clio was stolen, this lead to my second car, a Renaultsport Clio 197 in Ultra Red: Continuing my bad luck with cars, after just over three years of ownership a driver failed to give way to the right at a roundabout. Thankfully I have a dashcam and the driver admitted full liability, it was clear that my car was going to be considered a total loss immediately after the Incident: I'd tempted fate, having already looked at a number of Meganes prior to the incident. I'd almost saved enough but ultimately I required to sell the Clio to fund the upgrade. This was no longer the case and following a prompt insurance settlement I went to purchase a car I'd already looked at: A Picture of the Megane 265 Trophy (21/50) the seller used on AutoTrader: The only optional extra that the Trophy had from my knowledge was a painted gloss black roof (£419), my car doesn't have that option but as your likely aware my Trophy is specced as follows: - Liquid Yellow (Black was the only other available option) - Cup Chassis - Cloth Yellow Recaro's - Yellow Seatbelts - Renaultsport Monitor - 19" Gloss Black Steev alloys with the red pinstripe Feel free to follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rhys_merritt/
Thanks , It's one of the reasons behind me purchasing a Trophy. Wanted it on the 197 but couldn't afford it at the time.
The drive home from purchasing the car proved frustrating, it was raining and the M25 reflected a static meet rather than a motorway. By the time I was home it was cold and dark. Thankfully the following day was Easter Good Friday, and the weather was fantastic, I gave the car its first clean: (My Friend, not myself) I got the heatgun out and removed some annoying stickers from the front Windscreen and the classic ELF from the rear. The car was being let down cosmetically by the common OEM rusty bolts, as a workaround I painted the tips black with some Hammerite I had. I'll look to buy some black bolts in due course, if any one would let me know where from I'd appreciate it. I'd already purchased some new Renaultsport mats prior to purchasing the car, so it was out with the old and in with the new. I then went out for my first proper spirited drive in the Megane alongside my friend in his Focus ST3, by the time I'd returned it was my pants that required cleaning, what a brilliant car a complete revelation in comparison to the naturally aspirated 197.
Nice colour, never seen one in the flesh (i don`t know if this reflects that i don`t go out much!). How does the Focus compare to the Meg?
The pictures really don't do Liquid Yellow justice, I just sit here and gaze at my car sometimes haha. The Focus being a newer car (coupled with Renaults basic interiors) has a much more comfortable cabin, my friends has pretty much every available option. Heated Leather Recaro's, Sat-Nav, Reversing Camera etc. The Focus is a more comfortable daily but I'm yet to drive it to be honest although from the drives we've had together and the stats they're a close match. Focus ST-3: Engine power 247 bhp Engine size 1999 cc Brochure Engine size 2.0 litres Acceleration (0-60mph) 6.5 seconds Top speed 154 mph265lb ft of torque at 2,000rpm Megane Trophy: Engine power 265 bhp Engine size 1998 cc Brochure Engine size 2.0 litres Acceleration (0-60mph) 6.0 seconds Top speed 158 mph Drivetrain Front Wheel Drive Torque 355lb ft at 3000rpm I'd like to think that when I press the sport button and change the power delivery to 'Extreme' it's faster, he seems to have other idea's though haha.
Instafriend! Looks lovely this. RE wheel bolts, contact Faye at sixonetwo. Give her your reg and what you want and they'll sort you out. £40 I think, 16 black bolts and 4 lockers.
