250 RS250 Electrical issues *HELP PLEASE*

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by Michael, Feb 11, 2016.

  1. For reference my car is a '61' RS250 FF. I believe the stereo is standard Radiosat with Carimat TomTom unit.

Sporadically over the past month or two my Radio has been cutting out briefly and changing radio station on its own. The other day it decided to freeze, not allowing me to interact with it at all. I stopped the car, engine off and door open. Then I started it all up again to find the stereo would not work at all. No sound to Nav either. I can't eject a CD, change radio, turn on/off or use any functions. The stereo lights remain lit though, even when car is parked up and locked...

Due to this light remaining on, the battery has been losing power whilst it's parked over night etc. I had to jump it using jump leads the other day, but today it decided to have NO power at all. Would not unlock using any of my two key cards. I had to gain entry through the passenger door using the key from the key card. I made attempts to jump using jump leads again but the car is getting no power at all. The only hint of any power is the push start button which is flickering.

Car is just outside its manufacturer warranty and the extended auto are warranty does not cover electrics, say arnold clark....

Electrics is not my area so please help.

    Mikey.

  2. Leaning heavenly towards loose earth strap or depleted battery, how old is battery ?

  3. I've only had the car since last year, so it could be the original battery. Car is over 4 years old now.

  4. I'd say the battery too
Mine started to go nuts then changed the battery and all good again

  5. Your radio was alright after you replaced the battery?

Also any recommendations on what battery to use?

  6. My radio was OK it was the dash on mine and warning lights for everything and had to keep jumping it
I got a battery from eurocarparts cost around £60 think it was a bosch s4

  7. Cheers Phil. I think I'll throw in a new battery and see what happens...
