Very little if anything in it then with a good driver that knows the Nordschleife, The 275 may just have the edge though with it being a newer chassis, Better brakes
Right then , my car stage 1, AST coilovers, PF330s with DS1.11s , direzza tyres, that's it. Lol, Andy you trator lol
The massive difference between the R26R and Trophy R lap times would suggest that the Trophy R would probably come out on top even against a Stage 1 R26R.
I think that on the day, with the spec of steve's R with two competent drivers it would be very close. The gulf in lap times takes into consideration so much in my opinion. I think standard vs standard then yes the trophy would win hands down but for all intents and purposes it's modified vs standard I think there's only one way to find out.
sorry Steve but the old r has quite a few seconds to catch up on, I can see even yours with a good driver beating the new one
I heard the R26.R did it around 8 mins on a cooler day, the trophy R set its time at 7.15 am for that reason, it was 32 degrees when the R26.R did it, that said I reckon a stage 1 R would do the trophy R
There is absolutely no way air or track temperature would affect the R26R performance to account for almost 18 seconds.
275 R will be quicker, because of more powerful engine, better suspension and breaks, also aerodynamics.
I had exactly this thought this morning... R26-R with stage 1 (265bph) vs 275 Trophy R. 230bph to 265bph and the associated raise in torque is quite a leap in lap time on a track with lots of elevation change. Stir it up lol
the Mk2 R did a 8.12 on the day it did an 8.17. There was some sort of issue though and it couldn't be verified. The boys at the ring that rent them out do sub 8 all day... but alas the Mk3 is out of the box alot quicker as per the lap time.
Disagree ! The r26r is quick , but I think the 275r would pip it ! Its a more level playing field as the R26r has a map so torque is higher and some trick suspension , but the 275 has a few years of evolution and some of its own trick suspension.
Steve, the .R is a great, landmark car. Just as all other similar cars do, eventually they get over-taken (literally and metaphorically) by the passage of time. It doesn't devalue the car in question at all IMHO. Is a modern F1 car of any more (none monetary) worth than a 10, 20 year old one, even though it's undisputably faster? McLaren MP4/4 or Sauber C33?
I suppose the real question is would a map and better brakes add up to a 20 second off the time. Personally I dont think it would be enough. Not taking anything away from the R26R though. It'll always be the car thst started the whole fwd ring record game and the first of the lightened travk focused car that im sure will continue for year to come. Future classic for sure more so than than the Trophy R regardless of figures.
Its an interesting point. I think it could be a culmination of the parts that make the newer cars faster. The complete package of stoppers/turbo/suspension/revised other parts rather than one major point. Would be ace to see a mapped R go round though by a circuit pro seeing how much faster they went than Renaults benchmark time all those years ago.
If it were wearing PSC2's along with the rest of your spec Steve it probably would do a lap time very, very close with ease. I'm curious as to whether those that have posted actually have any experience of the Ring?
What we need Steve is a trophy-R owner that has had a .r in a similar spec to what you describe to have a crack at it and let us know!! car would need a full and thorough WARM up before trying.
All the Guys that i do track days with, are faster than me. AND?. So what. I always have a great time. Anyone know the difference in weight between the R26R, and the Trophy R?.
275r 1379kg R26r 1230kg My money would be on the 275R. 18 seconds is a lifetime on track and even with stage 1 which would give it comparable power I just think the newer meg would be quicker. I look forward to hearing what happens when you inevitably meet one on track next year Steve.
http://www.renaultsport.co.uk/pdf/RUK-Megane-RS-Trophy-Brochure-180714.pdf that article points to the weight being 1297kg on the R275 and 1376 on the 275 full fat
I have cleaned this thread up. I understand you wish to have a discussion about the mk2 and mk3 but please keep on topic. Thanks.
The difference in times is only 5% when you look at it that way. The difference between the standard cars in power is 16-17% which will probably be the largest proportion of that time difference. Speed/Accelleration over 100mph is incredibly important on the ring and that's where the added torque will really deliver. A few % difference should be easy to find with the right track tyres which are famed for making the biggest difference in performance/ £ . Handling upgrades would make a few millisecond difference each corner which adds.
Some thing I find very amusing about owners who get into this weight debate is that they are always eager to post there cars manufacturers weight or there weight after mods, but something I never see is there cars weight + the owners/drivers body weight, now this may seem amusing but when you consider the difference between a salad muncher 8st(50.8kg) and like myself a pie and mash muncher lol 18st(114.3kg) is an absolutely whopping 63.5kg, so please if you do insist on posting your cars weight then please also add your body weight also , its only fair . ROFL
That's definitely true, but if we just want to compare the cars themselves then you have to get rid of as many variables as possible. So the same driver and same road conditions would have to be used to truly compare the vehicles themselves.
Trouble is emc its not a real life comparision for me, don't get me wrong no harm in it, whenever are we going to get the chance to have the same variables and the same exact drivers lol, I would sooner settle it on the track at a meeting and have fun to boot, for me and its just my humble opinion , my personal car and myself driving and the same for any car I am driving against is the only variables I am interested in lol
