hi lads had car serviced yesterday at the garage I always go who I trust. I had full service including plugs... For some reason and I don’t know if it’s in my mind but I think my rev limit has dropped? As in when the beep comes in and the engine cuts....it seems like that is a lot lower. I never really got it to beep / cut in but now it seems to be doing it a lot!?!?! It also seems like the car isn’t as quick?! Could this be due to anything or is it just in my head? Elliott.
Like Matty says, The temp sensor can cause this, as it thinks the engine is still cold, so wont let you rev the tits off it
Not getting up to temp so imposes a lower rev limit. I had the same with mine, sounds like you xould have similar issued. My temp gauge on the dash sat just off centre to the cold side when cruising, does yours? Car was lumpy and felt under powered. Read on here it was likely the Thermostat, plugged in the scangauge and was running about 70-75deg temp when it should be about 85. Got the thermostat changed car was miles better after - revved all the way and scangauge reads a constant 84 now.
When I say it’s rev limit is cutting in earlier I don’t mean like at 3.5k revs like when you’ve only been driving 10 mins. It’s reving out to 5.5k but cutting in there but it usually revs all the way freely up to 6k I know this sounds minimal but it’s not how it was before the service!?!
Yeah that sounds like mine only hit about 5500 instead of 6500 because the thermostat was sticking. If you don't have a scangauge to track the temp look at the needle on the dash is it dead centre or sitting slightly to the cold side after it's warmed up? Take a photo if you can
Here it is....I took this from where I see the gauge if you know what I mean. It is slightly left....
Yours is more left than mine was. It should line up with the temp symbol dead centre. I'm no mechanic but I had exactly the same symptoms and was a sticking thermostat mate. It's only like an hour to do yourself (guide on here) otherwise a cheap job for your garage. I was lucky and had it all done under warranty. Seems a common problem if you read about on here.
