http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/renaultsport-hybrid-models-in-the-future-2014-11-27 I hope it is not true. Renault EV and RS will be cooperating to develop hybrid sport cars to promote them by Formula E. Is it right path?
I think EU may kill proper sport cars, too. These days even Ferrari, McLaren or Porsche are hybrids. I don't like this 1.0 4 turbos and 3 pots business.
Agreed. The near future is petrol hybrid, with automated transmission systems. We will soon laugh at the pathetic MPG current cars are achieving and the future crop of Renaultsports will have clever torque fill, low emissions and probably 100+ mpg, it will be great. It is going to happen so might as well embrace it
Agree with all that. Im excited to own a car like this, can only make performance motoring more affordable.
I look forward to it. You'll have the same people complaining about the hybrid tech that complained about the turbo and gearbox in the Clio 200 EDC though.
I was testing Prius 2009 when I was looking for family car in 2011. I didn't like it at all. Poor handling, weird sound during acceleration and not so great mpg when driving in normal maner. Finally I decided to buy Laguna mk3 2.0 dCi 150 Initiale Paris. I never drove fully electric car, but I own fully electric shaver so I got idea what is all about.
Oh dear. Sports cars? Prius? I was lucky enough to try a Tesla P85 a couple weeks back on some local roads. Wow, properly surprised at it, Mega thing with so much torque and handled pretty good for something wishing neigh on two tonnes, Plenty oversteer as well
Oh dear, in that case you will need LSD :-P Hopefully Tesla P85 Cup will come soon. I don't think that is right idea because of weight of the car. Even lack of LSD doesn't affect handling so badly as too much weight (Astra VXR). I hope you realise that batteries depends of car may weight between 200-400 kg. It will be about 20% (if batteries will be about 300kg) of kerb weight for compact hot hatch. If you like it, I don't know what think about you. One day you are mad about handling of the car, lack of LSD etc, next day you don't care about how heavy will be car :-) Unless you want to just say something contrary to my opinion...
I am about future of proper Hot Hatch (in this tread). If car is too heavy, and it will be with batteries, then handling will be much affected. Today you are very enthusiastic about it, yesterday you were concerned about tenth second 250 Sport will loose against Cup, which is not important in daily driving. Do you change mind every day?
You do realise battery tech has came on massively recently yes? Laferrari's battery weigh 66kg's. So no where near this 200-400kgs that you are crying about. Anyway look at the weight for these Hybrid Hyper cars, Similar if not lighter than what our Mk3 RS's weighs. Of course a Hybrid powerplant will be heavier than your normal combustion lumps, Theres more tech and more parts to them but manufacturers will be saving weight in other places to make up for this. I think you should re read what i have posted, if you can manage. I don't see anywhere where i mentioned Hot hatches? I actually had to LOL at this part though Yup, the P1, Laferrari and 918's are all pigs to drive and have terrible handling.
I'd rather they just commit properly. The whole Hybrid thing just turns me off, if we had viable usable EV, Hydrogen or some other alternative fuel type I wouldn't really have too much of an issue if the car was competent and fun. Jamming two fuel systems into one vehicle is a compromise and compromises are usually rooted in regulations creations boring and dull cars, or vast vast expense. Give me a fast EV car any day.
If they're going to make it heavier can they not just make it 4WD and turn the boost up a bit? You know, proper stuff. None of this "environmental" shite.
@Jamie Do you compare hot hatch to supercar? LOL Do you expect Mégane, Astra or Leon will be built with use so many carbon fibres, kevlar and other composits to reduce weight? Or maybe compact family car will become so wide and low like supercars to handle like something 10 times more expensive? You can't be serious. On a top with your changing mind, conversation with you makes me feel like watching Monty Python. Funny entertainment, but lots of absurds. I am off.
Where in this thread did i say anything about a Hot hatch? Ok bye bye, Maybe if you come back on later you will actually take the time to read what I've posted?
Hybrid and petrol like f1 would be great, masses of torque, no lag, more power, better mpg... Win win!
I'm just gonna miss the noise when full on ev is adopted.. Which it will... Manufacturers just haven't fine tuned how they're going to make their billions... From a pure no CO2 tech hydrogen is the way forward.. Which is why so many busses are using that fuel... Sports car wise not as effective...
I think hybrid technology used in the right way will be awesome for hot hatches. Imagine using the electric motor for crawling around town centres and on the way to work. This will free up the petrol to be used on a Sunday road blast. or imagine a meg with a KERS boost. Will really help at those lights.
I went to watch F1 at Silverstone this year. New 1.6T + "shaver" cars sound bit like my VAX hoover :-)
I went too, when i got over the dissapointment of the noise i really enjoyed it. Instead of plugging my ears i was listening to wastegates chatter spooling whistling, really enjoyed it. Just needs to be a bit louder when on full welly
They need to get akrapovic on the case to make them sound louder lol I actually like the noises they make... Took my car out yesterday for a quick blast and almost sounded like an f1 car
