Hey guys. Yesterday I went to check out a Megane GT Sport which had 110000km and everything was fine when testing it out, except one thing: When changing gears from 3rd to 4th it had very short strange whining sound, like a short dog whimper or something like that. The owner said the sound has been present since he bought the car 2 years ago and that it doesn't worry him. My mechanic, on the other hand, is worried. He says he thinks there are no repairs for this kind of automatic gearbox, that when it fails, you have to get a replacement gearbox alltogether, and that it is very pricey but he doesn't know the actual price. My question is: Should I be worried about the whining 4th gear? Is it possible to repair? Is the replacement too expensive to justify buying this car? Thanks in advance! Thomas
The same problem my brother had on meg 3 edc (getrag) The car has been standing for 2 years. Clutch costs 1300e + 2x590e. Parts only . The gearbox was open and we didn't find anything that wasn't right. For now, no one knows how to solve it My advice is to stay away from it
