redline question / rev limit

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Maccy44, Jan 10, 2016.

  1. should my R26 redline in each gear at the same amount of revs?
seem that in second gear my car wont reach 6000 but in other gears it will?
is this normal as I cant seem to find any rev limit information

  2. Did you try redline each gear one after another ? And they all did bar 2nd? Or was they are different times?

  3. I'm going to try it again to be sure
didnt try every gear coz it's obviously not a great idea on public roads
not sure about 1st (I never red line in 1st) but 2nd defo hits the limit before 3rd

  4. quoted from a so-called Renault Sport R26.R press release:
    1st and 2nd gears: 6,950 / 3rd to 6th gears: 6,500

also as stated the "Maximum power (kW/hp) at 169/230 at 5,500rpm",
probably my humble opinion, under normal circumstances there shouldn't be any need for going over 5,500rpm unless you are stuck in a long bend which changing gear in the middle of it will provoke the chassis balance

Why do you want to red line every gear?

I've never took mine near the red line

You don't need to redline a Meg, boost is on its arse on the redline.

  7. Was just wondering he might of been hitting cold cut limiter, thats why i asked about if he hit other gear limits or just 2nd

  8. its not that I 'want too' its just something I noticed after buying the car. I was just wondering if it was normal!
The car has had a ketch map in its past before my ownership and I'm aware that they are not supposed to be the best so I though it might have something to do with that
