R26 Rear numberplate light loom

  1. Soooo, my Meg has failed its MOT on a rear numberplate bulb failure. On closer inspection the whole thing is corroded and the plug to the loom is rusted. Any thoughts on how to fix this?! I gather I can buy a new loom but I can't see how to attach a new one.

  2. You need to either remove the inner plastic and prob remove the lower boot part too and you should have the room to fit the new loom. You might just get a way with a new bulb unit.

give the plug a clean with a soft brush and contact spray

  3. Thanks mate. The pin from the old lamp unit has rusted and broken off in the loom plug so presume that's doomed. I can't see anyway of getting it out. I've had the interior plastics out fine, but is it a difficult job to take the external bit off. I looked and all I could see were 3 bolts and about 4 clips.

  4. I got a second hand like new plug with some wire on ot off a car that was for breaking and jouned up the wires although you can get the full loom of ads

  5. Both my number plate lights have been out for 2months now ... bulbs should be delivered next week but got a feeling its the looms

  6. The plugs for the actual lamps get water in and go rusty tht will be the problem

  7. Yup, 3 bolts and then just clips out. Just be careful as it's been a while since I had mine out but it's deffo 3 bolts and then a case of pulling it off

  8. You may need new lamps too if the plugs are rusty i doubt they would be ibcluded with the loom

  9. New lamps come with the lamp housings luckily. Just done the job this aft. Took about an hour. There are 6 bolts in total, 2 under the bungs/bumpers in the corners of the boot and 1 under the boot lock itself. The other 3 are visible with the trim off in the boot. The middle one of these is a star head bolt. Not sure what size. Its a really easy job! I'll try to write this again, maybe as a guide but wanted to get my thoughts down before I forgot it all!

  10. Good stuff.. Did ya give it a clean it get filthy behind there

  11. Yes, absolutely full of crap. No wonder it all rots and goes ming! I feel bloody pleased with myself actually! Took a bit of finding for the hidden bolts but once they were off it was a piece of cake!

  12. Thanks for advice btw

  13. And thanks to Ads for getting me the parts so quickly
