So, I'm going to fully remove my rear calipers to service the pistons. Tried 1 while it was still attached to the brake line and it was a ball ache. I can only see to disconnect where the line actually inserts into the caliper via an 11mm nut. But, if I undo that fluid will piss out, and am not sure how to bung it up or what to use? Any suggestions, or better ideas? Thanks
Remove reservoir cap, place piece cling- film over opening and screw cap on, this should stop fluid running out open brake line, don't forget to bleed caliper once you've reattached it
Everywhere else I have read says 'clamping' is a big no no and can damage the pipes/safety? I'll try the cling film thing, sounds like a decent idea. Will definitely remember to bleed them properly afterwards this time
You won't damage the hoses if you use the correct tools for the job. That's why you get hose clamps. Alternatively you can compress the brake pedal with a bar against the seat, that also does the job. Hose clamps are by far the best/easiest way to do it.
This the kind of tool you mean pal? I think what I was reading / referring to was clamping up the end of the pipe with a bolt or something which would damage the tip fitting. Also, asked this in another thread but never got a response, does anyone have any experience or reviews on MTEC brake discs?
That's the tool you need aye. I fitted the mtec front discs to turbo tic (username on here) megane. He hasn't had any bother with them so far.
I'll be purchasing one of these them, and hopefully find a rubber plug to plug the end up too once the caliper is off. The MTEC discs look a decent price, so may just be getting some instead of the OE. Brembo pads are already ordered
I had mtec discs on my old type r, didn't last long and avoid minted red box pads which come with them! They're decent enough discs though while they last as long as you remember they're just brakeworld cheap discs, drilled, slotted or dimpled etc! They make sense! Overall they're ok but they're cheap discs modified and re branded. I'd still recommend due to oem being massively overpriced for renault cars!
