Something that's been bugging me for a while now. I have a random noise when driving at motorway speed. Sounds like grains of sand or similar rattling around in the wind in the B pillar/drivers door area. No idea what it is or where to start looking. Any thoughts?
Have exactly the same issue. Going to try taping up the window gap and door gap to see if the noise goes away. Then take it off bit by bit and taking it for a spin each time. All in the name of trying to narrow down where its coming from. Could be barking up the wrong tree but need to start somewhere.
Finally got around to looking into where this sound was coming from. Chuffed to say I've found the culprit. Even though the sound was coming from high up near where the door meets the B-Pillar, I couldn't get the sound to go away even when I taped all around the door, window, wing mirror and rear window. Pushing or pulling on the window or door while driving made no change to the sound. Even prodding the door seal up around where the noise was coming from made no change to the sound. It had to be air getting in somewhere and making something move about but I had covered every seal around the door and window. Or so I thought! It ended up being the blanking plate that covers the key-less entry. It's located behind the door handle on the exterior of the door. It was slightly loose which meant the wind would have been catching it as well as vibrations making it shake about. Have since ordered a replacement which I hope sorts it out. Had the car in a main dealers for a service but they couldn't find what was at fault. Only took me about half an hour and a couple of spins up and down the road...Not the only thing they couldn't resolve! But that's for another post
I don't have key-less on the car so there is just a plastic cover cover over where I thought the keyless sensor/component would be. Image attached I found on google images which shows what I mean. That's the part that is loose.
Hey, sorry not been on in a while. I never got the part number as when I was in buying a couple of other parts for the car in Renault, they had one of these sitting under the counter and just gave it to me. So unfortunately I don't know the part number or what the "official" description is. Had a quick look online there (no luck!) and I'd say your better off dropping into your nearest Renault dealership and showing them. That is if they don't know what you are on about over the phone.
No problem, I had it glued a few days ago. Without your post I would've had to taken apart my entire door to find the little vibration.
No worries at all. This rattle was sending me up the walls. To my detriment if something isn't working right I have to fix it! I intend to keep up with updating the forums here as I come across issues and eventually fix them. I know how much of a pain it can be to not find any information on something you are trying to diagnose.
Little update on this. Rattle is back. Same part is at fault. Its like the small rubber gasket around the blanking plate isn't thick enough or up to the task. I'll by using something to thicken it. Can't bring myself to glue it in!
