Had a 4 hour trackday at Knockhill today. Started off very very wet, and then dried out fully with 1 hour to go. This was just before that point. Its the 'Lothian Electrical' 182 that was at Mike265's night back in the summer - its since had cams and a map and a full cage - it was dyno'd at 198. We had agreed to have a shot about in front and even though the track was busy (and the clio's struggle for track position a lot more than the megane's through the power disadvantage in the straights) it was still a riot - the best part of the day. This stint was just after I got my confidence back after my biggest moment so far on track - I was pushing the limits and its a very steep learning curve in the wet, especially when you realise your coilovers are set far too hard and your tyre pressures need to be higher. This is turn 1 and its a little hairy and VERY blind - there were countless off's there today. I have a video of me and a black 265 doing battle in the full wet on its way..... Just as I was well prepared and just peeled out on track for the last 30 mins of the session, an off at the hairpin meant a premature end to the fun - but thats all part of the game
That 182 is a cracker. Nice catch going into duffus, I've got one similar in the dry but it was a full on tank slapper
I can't take credit for it fully ....... - it is reassuring looking back to see the corrective action I took but it sure felt like a fairy godmother tapped the brake on the back right lol... I guess you don't know the grip limits of the car or tyres till you cross the line sadly. Its a scary but epic bend when you nail it.
Looked a good day mate, gutted I didn't have time to make it up. I gave the wife's new car its first wash and before I knew it the time had gotten away from me. Looks like you had fun, some of the Clios have a brilliant bhp/ton and more often than not here far better in the corners than the Megane. Certainly looked like a lot of fun. Ill never forget a big moment I had at duffus. It's was in my 197 Cup and I got to greedy with the kerb at the bottom, dipped my back wheel on the grass and the car certainly didn't like it ! lol
Nice clip! I really want to drive knockhill, over 400 miles away from me, must be the furthest away in the UK
Cheers guys - glad you can finally get a nice chance to give some tlc to the lovely new motor mark. 800 mile round trip would be dedication mate - the go pro type camera's don't do the gradient changes proper justice either. These guys (Trackscotland) seem really good - it was 50 cars max and seamless throughout the day, and just unlucky that 2 car's needed recovery from the same corner around 20 mins from the end so the marshall's had to call it a day. Here's how slippy it was earlier on - it doesn't look it, but I'm really pushing on - you'll hear me lock up breifly after the main straight on the lap before I take the 265 - then you should watch the slide in turn 1 after I have overtaken him. The 265 is immediately in front of me at the start of the clip - but takes the caterham on that lap.
