'R3LMV' Megane Cup Track Weapon Project

Discussion in 'Megane Projects' started by R3LMV, Oct 15, 2017.

  1. I'm Ryan from Surrey, I'm a big fan of the Nurburgring, therefore the aim of this project is to create a car setup purposely for that track and fast road use. I bought the Megane off a forum member and believe it’s a brilliant base car for where I want to go with it:

    RS250 Cup – Metallic Black

Scorpion turbo back exhaust system with sports cat

    Wagner intercooler

    K&N panel filter

Custom ECU map & dyno session resulting in 314bhp and 340 ft/lb

Reyland Motorsport 355mm 2-Piece front discs

    Ferrodo DS2500 Pads all round

    Goodridge braided lines all round

Steev wheels with Michelin PS4S tyres

Some of the previous cars and 3 that went to Nurburgring

350z – Nismo V2 Front Bumper with Carbon Splitter, 07 Bulge Bonnet, 19" LMGT4's in Anthracite Grey,Vortech v2 Supercharger Full Kit(Not Tuner)Polished, Split Second Piggyback ECU,Polished Intercooler Pipes, Kinetix V2 Plenum , GT Spec Strut Brace, Uprated Exedy Clutch, Lightened Flywheel, Arc Oil Pan (Rare- Possibly 1 in the UK?), Z Speed Undertray, Custom Exhaust, Brembo GT Big Brake Kit Ferrodo Pads, Defi Gauge Control Box, Defi Fuel Pressure Gauge, Defi Boost Gauge, AEM AFR Gauge, Alpine Sat Nav in Cubby - Power 350bhp

GT86 - HKS Supercharger V2 - fitted and mapped by Abbey Motorsport, HKS manifold, Tomei Overpipe, HKS resonated Front Pipe, M7 titanium exhaust (only one in the UK I think, hand made in Japan), HKS Oil cooler,ARC air box,17x9 Rota Titans, ST XTA coilovers - Power 320bhp/288 at hubs

    M135I – JB4, Richter decat, Bilstein B14 coilovers, Carbotech XP8 pads - Power 400bhp

Good base to start from however stock power ones are similar pace to mapped ones anyway, How often do you visit the Ring?

  3. Hi Ryan, I'm rich, also from Surrey, also a fan of the nurburgring! I went one generation older than you for my base car, done a couple of ring track days in it now, 8:33 fastest but there's plenty more in the car, unfortunately the gearbox gave in at the start of my 2nd day there in August. Will be heading back out there for the destination nurburgring events next year.

Looks like you've got a great base for yourself - strip some weight, get some better pads and stickier tyres and you'll be flying!

  4. Last few years have been twice a year, next year I aim to get out there at least four times hopefully more, work permitting. Just been through your build thread, it's certainly something haha any primary recommendations?

  5. I've not been on a purpose track day out there like Destinatin Nurburgring only the tourist sessions, which as you probably know can be manic!

The aim was to use a similar setup to 'xthilox' PFC pads, KW Clubsport and running around 320 and tyres I was looking at AD08R think they're priced well, out there is mostly familiarity and slowly getting faster the car in stock form is amazing, it's evident as I've seen them flying round.

Will you be doing many Uk days?

Personally having a car setup for the Ring is a bit of a waste unless your there lapping every weekend or so, Mine is setup for track but is slightly compromised for the Ring, Which is something I'm more than happy to live with.

Recommendations really depend if you are set on having it Ring prepped. If so then its hard to go wrong with a set of Raeder Clubsports, Some decent pads and slightly stickier tyres. AD08R's work well. Some of the yellow megane train run them to great successalong with some of them just being stock power. There really isn't much between them in terms of pace.

Id even leave it as is and get some laps in it under your belt in it first, They can lap under 8 in stock trim on road tyres if you have the knowledge and skills.

  7. I aim to do a few U.K. Track days, I just find the tracks very small hence going Germany, Spa is on the to do list.

I do see everyone mention the Clubsport, do we know if anyones running a Bilstein setup? Which company are people having their cars setup in the UK?

Bilstein do some B14s which are more of a fast road setup, they do have their Clubsport kit though which is top dollar.

If you truly want a Ring setup car then it's hard to look past the Raeder setup.

As for UK companys, any decent place can set them up. They ain't that hard to get right tbh but I'd give CGR a shout, they are one of the only ones that are actually pushing the development of setting them up and are a trader on here.

  9. how you finding the change from a m135i, i'm thinking about the same change myself.

  10. The M135I is a weapon in a straight line with the JB4, intake and decat. But when at the Ring I really couldn't keep with the Meganes in the corners but I was using road tyres and I had no LSD. The build quality of the BMW I think speaks for itself and is a lot more luxurious, but for the track there must be a reason so many people use the Megane's, that's what I'm hoping anyway!

  11. I had B14 on the BMW, they're on offer atm for £750 not sure if it's worth getting a set or not but I don't think I'll be on the track again this year, but the car for me looks very high in standard form. Looking for wheels currently for the track, scrolling the forum for ideas.

Depends how full on you want to go, B14s with adjustable topmounts are alright for the cash but they are more focused on the road and show their lack of damping in track, particularly when it starts to get fast.

If that's the kind of budget you're looking at for Suspension, consider getting some BC Coilovers, we're getting the first UK sets sent over to us now and we can spec custom spring rates e.t.c where required, they come with adjustable top mounts e.t.c as standard too, fantastic pieces of kit for the money.

We'll fit them, corner weight the car and do a full 4 wheel set-up for you too to get the most from the car!

We've set up loads of Meganes on loads of different set-ups now, so any info or bits you may need give us a shout, we'd be more than happy to help!

  14. That's the issue how far do I want to go, do I do everything in moderation like having the B14 or be patient and test to see where the impoverments are needed and go for something more expensive down the line. I want to order some wheels primarily debating Team Dynamics 1.2 or 1.3's

You mentioned the B14's, Now that BC do a kit for them id be choosing them over the Bilsteins at that price point.

You can always upgrade later down the road if need be, MK3 Megane parts hold their value due to how uncommon decent parts come up for sale so you wont loose that much.

You can't go wrong with some TD's, Cheap and light enough. Massive choice for the Mk3 though with them being 5 x 114.3 providing you get the offset choice right.
