Hi What are the performance diffs between the r26r and a stage 1 tuned r26. I've read that they both have a similar bhp/tonne figure so are they close or would the r26r run rings round the r26? Anyone driven both? I'm asking because want to know if it's worth spending the money on my r26 to get it closer to an r26r. Cheers Eddie
An R26R is essentially just a lighter version of an R26 so you can compensate that weight advantage with a bit more power. Correspondingly, you can lighten an R26 to get close to the R26R kerb weight.

Bought it as a fun car/occasional TD car with the possible long term intention of making it into an r26r. Not a daily driver so back seats could be swapped for a roll cage but if with the remap it's close to an r26r in performance that may not bother.

A stock R26 with 270 bhp can lap about the same time as a stock R26R with 230 bhp. Much is circuit dependant though, so you will never get the precise answer you are seeking. You can't turn an R26 into an R26R because it's not a genuine factory build. What you can do is build/mod an R26 that is just as fast or quicker than an R26R for a small budget. Loads have already done it. There is nothing really that special, performance wise, with an R26R.

but at least you can see that an R26r isn't that far ahead of an R26, 0.1 sec on the 0-100mph, 0.1 on a 1/4 mile not that much in it then, a slow gear change then it's equal
It's safe to assume a lot of that time advantage for the R26R is down to the OEM semi slick tyres. The R26 is a huge 14 secs a lap quicker than the R26R around the Autocar wet handling track. Variables, variables.
Too true different weather conditions play there part but on a dry track it's clear the R26r is quicker so much depends on the individual driver skill. Eddie Back to the point of the thread if it's purely performance as your number one priority a good remapped r26 would be my choice, if it exclusivity with a limited production run and potential return on your investment r26r, but be prepared to factor in the 10k plus premium
It was only ever going to be an r26 modded to be r26r for a few grand but if the stage 1 tuned r26 I bought is there or there abouts then I don't need to bother innit :-)
I have an R26.R and recently bought a 225 as I planned to mke it a full on track car, but now I have only drove it for a week, the differences standard are massive! its like driving two totally different cars
to be fair,the 225 doesnt drive like a R26..obviously no diff,but more to the point the suspension on a 225 doesnt inspire anything like the confidence a R26 does. In in regards to the R26R, as much weight as possible was removed so the suspension could be softened,which helps the car to be more compliant over the bumps,and contributes greatly to the R26R`s better handling.
