R26 swivel bearings

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by D11nyd, Jul 24, 2017.

  1. Hi I've just bought an r26
Great car but I've Just got it on my ramp as the steering feels a bit tighter when driving going to the right.
There's play in both lower swivel bearings when moving the hub left to right.
Disconnected both track rod ends and moves freely.
My question is, is there meant to be play in these bearings?
Like I said it moves freely so not siezed but I presume my lower needle bearings are worn?
I don't want to change them if that's how they are as the movement is only slight
Thanks in advance for any advice
    Cheers

  2. classic sign is the steering wheel staying where it is when cornering, and not coming back to center..you will feel resistance..especially on full lock.

My car only has 40k on it..but both needle bearings were utterly seized.

  3. Hi thanks for the reply but it's the opposite, steering centres itself no problem just feels like there's more resistance turning right.
I've disconnected my track rod ends and they freely move.
It's apparently had the top ones done but don't think the bottom bearings have been done as there's play in the bottom ones when moving side to side?

Never heard of the top ones need replacing, bottom ones yes.
Is that freely moving with the wheels in the air, if so put the wheels on the floor and try again

  5. Yeah up in the air no wheels on.
My mistake re the tops, miss read the invoice.
They got done in February and not a great deal of mileage has been done since.
Going to ring the garage tomorrow who did them and see what they say as surely they'll guarantee there work for atleast a year
