R26 suspension refresh - driveshaft pulled out

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by chappers2000, Aug 11, 2022.

  1. Hi,
Just started the front suspension refresh on my R26 after carrying the parts around for a year! Took the hub/carrier/shock/spring out both sides as one unit as the bolt holding the shock to the carrier just won’t come out. Bolt spins but as yet I haven’t got it out. Have all new bolts to go back in, so wasn’t sure if some heat might help? Anyway, In my tiredness I pulled the passenger side driveshaft out of the box. Lost a little oil but pushed it back in. Will this be a problem? I can top up or just drain and change all the gearbox oil, but do I need a new seal or do I need to at least check anything? Had no leaks before I started.

with that bolt the best way i have found is to put the nut back on a few turns and rattle gun on the bolt, as its turning hit the nut in with a hammer.

If your there and you don't know when the gearbox oil was last changed then its worth doing.

  3. Thanks Ian. Will see how I get on.
How much oil does the gearbox take? It’s probably not been changed for 2 years when the SMF/R26R clutch but I’ll drain it anyway.
