Hi guys, My steering has recently in the last 12 months or so felt like It's git looser. Done track rods and bearings etc last year but I'm wondering if the rack itself is at fault... How can this be diagnosed.. Without removing it? Cheers Sent from my CLT-L09 using Tapatalk
I had the steering go on my225 last year. My symptoms were a loud, harse metallic cracking nousewhen turning from lick to lick at standstill, or same really hard, crack, crack, crack sound when in a car park parking, manoeuvering at lowspeeds, never heard it at any other time. If you've ever watched a film and they've had someone on one of those old fashioned torture racks, with their hands, feet tied and they get stretched, till bits come off, it's that noise when you hear that machine getting cranked. :-) Also jack up front of car and get someone to turn steering, hold the tierods or grasp the tie rod rubber boot when turning steering, you will feel the cracking!
I had problems with the steering on my R26, just replaced everything, including the steering rack. Made sense to me rather than fucking around replacing bits and pieces! They're old cars now, probably had the arse kicked out of them, some snot nosed little bastard with mummy's Bank account financing it up until a point, then it all gets fucked up. Replace everything you can, then replace more! [emoji23] Or, sell the fucker for a loss! Sent from my LYA-L09 using Tapatalk
utter minefield, and impossible to put your finger on just 1 thing. inner arms, and steering bush will need to be done next. Then thats all you can change without a new rack. I have done everything possible without a new rack ,and still think its not quite as sharp as when the car was newer.
Simples!!!! Done about 15k on my fucker, can't afford to get shot of the bastard now, not that I really want to! [emoji848] Sent from my LYA-L09 using Tapatalk
As I said, don't fuck about, just replace the lot, inc new steering rack. You can get a rack reconditioned if you're stuck for cash, but then an R26 isn't for you, it's a money pit! [emoji857] Sent from my LYA-L09 using Tapatalk
[emoji23] Love the answers... Yeah it been my money bit for the last 10 years!.. Guess a new rack might be on the cards... Along with suspension, and a remap... Sent from my CLT-L09 using Tapatalk
Check the rack hasn't loosened from the sub frame. Mine was rattling and knocking /clunking at low speeds and the clicking whilst stationary. I tightened the bolts holding the rack and boom, good as new!
