Was looking at Ph3 meganes on autotrader, as I've always fancied one and was looking at how the prices are. I stumbled across a few R26's which for their age and mileage seemed quite expensive (pushing towards the 8k mark) are they going up in price or are these just slightly optimistic prices? Some of the cars were advertised badly and didn't look great but it did surprise me to see how much they were supposedly worth!
When I got mine at the start of September 2014 the parker guide price was 6,500 from an Ind Dealer, 6,800 from franchise dealer. I checked again last month and the top line had gone to 8k (2008 08 on average miles in both cases) - so yeah I think you're right they seem to have appreciated, I think a few people on here paid c7.5 for sub 60k GW or LY examples this year, I can only remember seeing them as high at 7k when I was hunting 8 months ago.
I'd say that the sellers are being optimistic. Unless they're really low miles and white or yellow as they seem to fetch a premium
Most were yellow but there was a red with the fake F1 team stickers and "metallic red paint" for £7790! It had 60k on it as well!
I paid £7.6k for my LY R26 from a dealer 2 years ago with 39k on the clock. Most are asking more than that now, and it's probably only lost 6 or 700 quid in those two years if I sold it private. (I've spent loads on it so realistically I would lose a lot more!).
i got my white 08 plate R26 at end of January, Lux pack, black pack etc with 34000 miles for £7900 after haggling - in comparison to others Ive seen for not much less Im happy with what I paid - funnily enough I bought my 07 plate with 30000 on it when it was just 2 1/2 years old for £10000, 5 years later ive paid just £2000 less for one thats 5 years older! I hope the prices hold
Got a 2008 57 plate white lux 53k miles a few months back, FSH and belts etc done for £6k, I looked around for a few weeks and it was priced well but needed new back tyres but still happy with the price. Was a good deal for 7-8 with no lux etc but that's just ppl being hopeful. The prices from garages seemed stupidly high
I paid £8990 for my R26 Lux ultra blue. One owner from new 2 year warranty 35,000 miles and cambelt amd service just done. It was the fifth R26 I had looked at and it was spotless and mint so I was happy with what I paid. its a great car and will most likely trade it in for a RS250 or 265 in a couple of years
Prices are all over the place. I reckon I've only lost a few k on mine in nearly 5 years. Good examples are increasingly hard to find imo.
This exactly, the majority of them are absolutely hanging now. You can pretty much charge a premium for a mint one. Once the chavs get insurance for them and get a sick crackle map it's game over YO!
It's not just R26's, I've seen some hilariously bad Trophys for sale with prices all over the place. I'd want top dollar for mine if I was thinking of selling it
Mine is mint. Has been sat on the drive for a couple of months. Not using it and having access to three other cars I was going to sell it. It's on 53k, FSH with belts done. LY with black unmarked alloys and R26r bonnet. Interior is like new. Bodywork is in showroom condition with just a few stone chips. Two Yellow ones have come up for sale within 5 miles and have sold within two to three weeks. One was at a garage for 10k but only had 18000 on the clock, the other was up for 8k with 43000 on. I wonder if it's time to sell?
All I know is the last 2 cars I've had I sold them in perfect condition and they only increase in value so I'm keeping hold till I get bored this time!
I'm keeping my R26 another 2 years, it will only have around 60k on it by then so hopefully it will still be worth at least 5k. I'll take a 2.5k loss in 4 years anytime!
I think sub 10k performance petrol cars are holding well in general, iv just sold my mazda mps for 250qiud more than I payed for it 2 years ago, (yes I haves spent money on modifying it but I often think that puts a lot of people off or dirves the price down) a mk4 & mk5 r32 golf's seem to have risen in the last two years. civic type R's don't seem to be getting any cheeper either. maybe its due to the slump in petrol prices or the economy increase so people have more disposable income than a few years back.
Could also be due to the reported news of diesels being outlawed which is off putting people as it may become more heavily taxed and expensive to run. So people are looking at electric (which don't work for the majority) or petrols. It's good new for us RS owners though
