Hi all, Fairly new to the forum and have only had my R26 for a month or so. I was just curious as to where the best shift point is in the rev range on a standard r26? At what rpm does the power tail off? On the 182's the power pretty much tailed off at about 6800rpm. In the megane it feels to me like the power drops right off at about 6500rpm. What are your thoughts?
If it is in OEM state, then try about 1000rpm lower. At 5500rpm is when the power band tails off in a R26 (or 225). If it has been remapped then this will change, but it depends on who did you remap tbh. I went to Paul@RsT and my power band is increased a fair bit. Not even sure if the rev. limiter lets you go as high as 6500rpm!
Depends on how you want to shift. You will note from the dyno traces that the torque is highest lower down the range. 5252rpm is the crossover for torque and power. The theory dictate that you change the gear when you will land back in the highest torque. Its normally past peak power. Have a look at a trace of the cars and see where the peak power is.
I shift at 5500 max... The power seems to tail off past that. If you keep it between 3000 and 5000, you are pretty much always on full torque. The R26 has a pretty flat torque curve.
You don't hit the powerbands till you feel the front of the car rise up then you know the powervalve has opened and your good to go, the revs will rise significantly faster than through the previous rev range and you'll be lucky if you can shift fast enough before the rev needles bounces off the limiter.
