just bought my first megane r26 I love it , but I need better brake feel for fast driveing Can anyone recommend the best fast road pads , how much and where to buy them from. Cheers
Hi Pete I am a little disappointed, you bought an R26 and you have not posted any pics (disgraceful ), sounds like you have already been out playing if you think the pads need upgrading. If i was you get the brake fluid changed as well, not the normal stuff get some racing fluid in there, as for pads well you will get loads of answers to that one, i have run Ferodo DS1.11 and Carbon Lorraine CL6, both i think are good, i will be trying cl8's next time.
always run Carbotech xp8`s..expensive,but several track day guys use them on here as well. Great on the road/track,no fade..even on the nurburgring. Massive bite from cold..night and day to OEM. Make sure you do a fluid flush before you put them on,as well as make sure your disks are good. you wont regret it..
Carbotechs ain't that expensive, I run them in various compounds as well and have done for quite some time, they work very well for me and my style of driving however not everyone gets on with them. I do fancy trying one of the Pagid RST or RSL compounds next though as I loved the RS29s
contact Carbotech direct..last 2 sets I bought, they made to order. If you do get them, follow the bed in procedure..last time I had them fitted before my ring trip,i didnt do the bed in correctly, and the pads, although are still ok..the friction material cracked.
I wouldn't say they're not expensive lol..... £200 for a set of front pads is expensive for a lot of people!
That's cheap when you consider what type of pads they are tbh, have a look at the cost of some Pagid RS stuff or the endless compounds if you want expensive.
looks good. look after it,they are going up in value. Good tyres, brakes, shortshift and RS Tuning remap, and you will have yourself a match for most cars on a B road blast.
I used to buy rover metros for work with 12 months ticket for £200! If this is to much, many use CL RC5+ or Ferrodo DS to good fast road effect.
and should be the first place to start,as well as quality tyres..See a lot of trade in meganesports with ditch finders on them!
Yes mine has ditch finders on as well ! Unbelievable. I have had it 3 days now and that's my first things New brakes and tyres. Just need to know where to get them from
carbotech themselves for the pads..give them a call,or email..they are very friendly. xp8`s do however create a lot of dust, that can be near impossible to shift if you don't clean the wheels often,as well as sometimes squeeling and grinding..but I myself put braking performance over anything..just something to bare in mind. I think the Michelin PS4 is a good value all round ability tyre...I get mine from Camskill. Shortshift...Contact`Boardy` on here. For the remap..Contact RS Tuning in leeds if you want a tried, tested and safe map...a stage 1 with no mods will bring around 260hp/270lb/ft on average...had mine done 5 years ago..transformed the cars performance..never missed a beat. If you need disks..brembo blanks are a far cheaper option than oem Renault..just no cross drilling on them.
I bought brembo discs and carbon lorraine pads from kam racing, online. They seem well priced and the service was good. @Boardy is excellent to deal with for the short shift mechanism.
Just this minute ordered the Bremen disks and cl6 pads with stainless hoses from Kam Just looking for tyres now, it's going to be an expensive evening, helped along with a glass of Malbec
make sure you have the fluid replaced when you fit all this..i have found over the years,a high quality fluid flush like motul makes a big difference to the feel of the pedal if the fluid is getting old.
I used ferodo ds2500 on my civic and they were really good, then I tried some called PBS from Area Motorsport and they were twice as good! Not available for the megs yet, but he says he's going to be making them for the megs very shortly and were cheaper than the DS2500 for the Ep3 (DS2500 - £110, PBS - £90 as an idea)
I recognise that megane!! Lol Loved that car dearly! I'm in the same situation with my current brakes - just bought all new discs but pads are stumping me - is only for road use, don't want silly amounts of brake dust, don't really want to spend £200 on a set of pads just for the road so swaying towards ds2500's though getting lots of criticsm on Facebook for thinking of buying those - more research needdd I think
If you want powerfull fade free braking, then you have to spend..all the carbon based pads create dust..but its a small price to pay for the reassurance of strong brakes.
