250 Pulling to the right

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by nick197, Mar 24, 2014.

  1. Hello everyone,
I've got a slight issue. Basically when i accelerate using the torque up to roughly 3.5k it pulls to the right, When i let off it suddenly corrects.
I had the wheels off the weekend to check the brakes and decided to swap a wheel front to back, So now i have both Michilin pilot sport 3s on the front now. One of the PS3 is rated W and the other Y, Is that enough to be causing the tracking issue?

I've just been and checked the tyre pressures and the front was 29 and 34 psi, Which couldn't of been helping the situation, It does seem a little better now there all 33psi however it was only in town driving so hard to tell if it's improved.

Any ideas what could possibly causing this?

    Thanks in advance

  2. Tracking

  3. Okay cool, I'll get that sorted the weekend
Thanks for the very quick reply

  4. May not be out at all but for £30 odd at least you'll know it's correct

  5. When i bought mine it needed new tie rods which made it puul sharply under acceleration but to the left maybe worth checking

  6. I had a similar thing in my Clio last week, normal acceleration caused it to pull to the right and then it pulled back normally when letting off. Happened after having some different (matching) tyres fitted to the front. Weird! Had the tracking done, didn't help. I swapped the wheels front to rear and hey presto, all fixed. Did yours happen suddenly, or has it been doing it for a while?

  7. Hub bearings probably !

  8. It happened suddenly strait after I swapped the wheels over. When I had the wheels off everything seemed solid, no wobbling etc. It's weird if the wheel swap is causing the trouble, I had a PS3 on one side and on the other a Sava crap tyre, hence why I wanted another PS3 up front.

  9. My steering still self centers, Would this point to it not being the hub bearings?

  10. Yep good idea

  11. Just a thing, check your nuts are fully torqued up (oo'er!). I had the tyres swapped after a long drive and when I came to swap the wheels from the back to front, they weren't loose but certainly weren't any where near tight enough. Not sure if that caused my problem, but it's better to check these free things first eh.

  12. Okay i'll check that, I did torque them up to 130nm.

  13. hi nick I had very similar problem with mine I found when the tyres drop to 2.5mm they suffer more torque steer due to the tyres loosing their give in the tread blocks new tyres did the job

  14. Take it to a proper alignment place too, one that provides you a before/after printout. I used alignmycar.co.uk to find a local place with a Hunter 4 wheel alignment system.

If the tyres are worn different amounts, then their diameters will be different. If you have an ATB limited slip diff, then pulling one way on acceleration and the other on deceleration is just one of the diffs characteristics with different tyre diameters because the torque is slightly biased to one wheel. I had the same issue when I got my secondhand R26. Tyres were 3mm and 6mm. I put both rears on the front which were 2mm and it was perfect.

  16. ^ Good point!

  17. I have got similar issue. When accelerating car goes from left to right and other way around. It requires little correction on steering wheel. I though it is down to my tyres and it is trait of Megane RS.

  18. All tyres on my car are pretty much brand new. Tomorrow after work i'll swap the 2 tyres back and see if it cures the problem, However i don't like the thought of different make tyres on the front of a powerful front drive car. If it does cure the problem i'll get a PS3 put on that alloy fairly soon.

  19. Just to update this thread, I've swapped the wheels back and got the tracking done. The problem is still there, Thinking hub bearings is the cause now.

  20. Also at say 40mph the steering wont self center completely.

    Hub Bearing/Swivel joint.

Mine has gone on the Drivers side, Trip to Aarons Autos in Derby is due soon as they can just replace the joint instead of the full hub that Rneualt want to do for big £'s

  22. God this topic is confusing.

So we've gone from: "pulling to the right while accelerating but the car still self centres" to "car wont self centre" all in the space of 1 week. No offence but I recommend stop playing guess the problem via text descriptions on the forums and get it booked into a mechanic for a proper look!

You do realise that hub bearing can degrade very quickly......

  24. Yep. I'm just trying to point out that this topic of internet diagnosis has already cost him a wheel alignment and a week of his time. I'm not suggesting both of those things are necessarily wasted but they could have been potentially avoided.

  25. Calm down FFS Sargara, The tracking wasn't a waste of time really, It only took 10 mins and it turns out the tracking was out.

  26. Got a knocking noise on my front drivers one, all seems a bit all over the place while driving and under harsh acceleration the cars goes off to the right. Booked into Renault on 11th as i think its hub/bearings

  27. What at price were Renault charging compare Aaron's Autos?

    Worth the £150 on fuel?

Your looking at close to a grand from Renault as they only do the full hub, not just the swivel joint
