Prospective 250-265 owner

  1. Evening.

Starting a new job in the new year that will see me able to afford a megane rs that I've wanted for a while.

Thought I'd say hello, used to be a heavier forum user some years ago, (s2ki, detailingworld, tgtt, ukso etc etc) fairly experienced car enthusiast, owned mainly japanese metal before, somewhat of a detailer and mechanic, not professional, did some buying and selling for a while.

Looking forward to going rs shopping though and heard good reviews about the forum.

If anyone is looking to sell in the new year, already have a spec I'm looking for

    rs monitor
    xenon's
    recaro's, leather or material
    cup chassis with lsd
    climate control
    sub 40k mileage
almost any colour except black or yellow, fairly keen on red.

I'm guessing cruise control and bluetooth are factory spec as I've not seen a single ad without them?

anyway, nice to be here, I'll most likely be pretty quiet up to purchase, but will be back of course with pictures

    Good Evening

    Tom.

  2. Welcome. I recently bought one with your exact requirements and it took bloody ages to wait for one with the spec

  3. Hi Matt.

Yeah I figured it might , plus, I'm a very fussy buyer, I've turned around a few times before test driving a car when I can see things aren't right.

But, I'm prepared to shop around, no rush, I properly sorted megane rs is a bit of a dream car to me and this new job is a complete change of circumstances, so the car will have to be exactly right! Lol

  4. Hi,

I'd say that the monitor is nice but how much do people really use it in practice? I have sat nav and that's great (TomTom system) and I don't think I'd ever bother using the monitor. Also, Recaros are nice but the std seats are also very nice and better for every day use. The monitor and Recaros are often regarded on here as 'must have's' but IMO they aren't.

  5. You can't comment on the recaro seats not being as good for everyday use because you don't have them. I have the recaros and they are perfect for every day use, however I can't comment on if they are better than the standard ones. But the standard seats look awful in comparison

  6. Full leather heated embossed seats loom 'awful'?

  7. Having owned nearly all variants of the seats available in 250/265s Ill give my 2 cents.

Id agree that the standard seats are a bit better for everyday use. The cloth recaros wear badly and are more awkward to get in and out of (having older poeple in mind here) but are certainly fine to live with.
On the other hand the standard seats are very deep so the room in the back for baby seats / passengers is limited.

The recaros look really nicer but I certainly wouldnt say the standard ones look awful. They just look a bit normal in comparison.

With regards to the the RS monitor, I do use it often but I dont think I would mind too much if it wasnt there.

  8. The rs monitor is a bonus really, I would use it, but if I found a model with everything else that I wanted in superb condition, I wouldn't pass it up based on an RS monitor.

The seats are non negotiable, I really really dislike the look of the standard seats

  9. Had the recaros in the Clio, I looked for a Megane without them. Form over function IMO, the recaros don't hold you any better and make it difficult for passenger getting in and out.

  10. Living with recaros isnt a problem atall. My 250 is on 65000 miles and they still look like new. The material stands upto wear and tear much better then the material on the older clios.

Like said above they're actually better than standard seats for rear passenger.

I find the recaros I'm my mates 197 more difficult to get in and out of than my 250 recaros however That might be because I'm not used to getting in the passenger seat

  11. Recaros were a must for me and I'm so glad I waited for a car with recaros. I find them easy to get in and out of. They are really comfy and help lift an otherwise boring interior!

  12. Here's my pence worth even thou I've had my rs only a few weeks, got leather myself as they were heated hold me just fine and comfy, standard seat I did not like the look off ,the recaro's were ok but had a bar that goes across the back off them on the floor so my daughter could not get her feet under them so not much leg room for her.love the look of the 19 " wheels but wasn't keen on the ride myself.try before you buy I say.I have got the sat nav really good but wasn't bothered if it had it or not ,the rs monitor would be used once then left alone for me,but each to there own.

  13. I'll be selling mine in the new year with the spec you want, it's fairly rare but I personally wouldn't own one in a different guise.

If you search my threads you'll see it!

  14. thanks chris, will have a nose.

not sure how this turned into a debate about seats? lol

  15. This.

This is exactly the right attitude towards purchasing a Megane. The Recaros really make the interior - it would be quite dull without them - even if they actually aren't really any better than the standard seats in terms of comfort or holding.

The monitor is nice to play about with and to show off to friends but you can't really see whats happening when 'on one' as the road commands all of your attention (mine anyway!). When just puttling along, the numbers/graphs aren't worth looking at. It can record your trip on the SD card and overlay it on a map on a computer later as it also records the GPS coordinates, which is fun but can be a bit irresponsible on the public roads.

    Welcome along BTW.

  16. Thanks xanda, yeah thats pretty much where I'm at with it

  17. The only useful time I used the RS Monitor in my old 250 was putting it in snow mode when we had shed loads of snow a few years back. Other than that, I just used it to play around with. Fun though

Recaro's are a must ... somehow mine had custom leather ones in, looked and felt awesome

    Welcome!

  18. Good luck with the hunt - you're probably in for a long wait unfortunately but it's all worth it in the end.

My advise would be to act fast if one comes up in the spec you want as they don't hang around long. It took me a long time to find mine as I wasn't prepared to compromise.

  19. I gots one :cool::cool:

  20. Awesome !!!! What did you get ??
