Just a quick one to ask how much of a ball ache is it getting a private plate from buying to eventually fitting. Did it take ages? Seen a few 'CUP' plates which I think may work so just tempted. Cheers
If you buy it from the DVLA then it can be transferred straight onto a car there and then. You will then send your V5 off to be replaced and it's returned with your new tax disc and then just a case of informing the insurance company.
I got a 'CUP' plate from DVLA recently and it was all pretty easy to be honest, as Ben says send off you V5 to be replaced and they also send you a new MOT and tax disc. It was all surprising quick and efficient for the DVLA!
Private plates are pretty hassle free, I used to prefer going to the local dvla office to sort things but now there closed you have to send it to Swansea but it's fairly quick return, about a week. Only thing my plate owes me over a grand now due to having to put it on retention or transfer every time I get a new car lol
