Thought this would be interesting for some people too see. Some cars can't always be made perfect but can be improved massively. With these kind of jobs safety for the clearcoat is also a big priority. As you will see in some of the pictures some of the heavier marks are left with this in mind. This car had also been painted on various panels so needed some care, for this reason also some of the 50/50's weren't pushed right up too the tape line but then rectified after removal of the tape. Also worth detacking the tape when working on something which is older or has had paintwork, just run the masking tap across your shirt or trousers so it's less sticky. So the before's: After the wash it looked much better but was still riddled in tar: Into the garage, the car was clayed and then paint depth readings were taken. After this a test panel was done to settle on a polish and pad combination:
Thanks for looking, hope this gives more of an example of a heavily used car and what can be achieved still.
Looks smashing ! Ever thoughts of doing a time lapse for it ? or a flickbook on the paint as you are going along ?
I think of this all the time mate but it never seems to be a reality, plus don't want to capture my ugly mug on camera
Some people shouldn't be allowed to own cars. Those 50/50 pics are shocking. Great work though mate. Where's the 'R'. It's moved lol.
Another great example of your work ed, and so glad you posted it as this type of detail is more relevant to my poor R26, 80k miles worth of swirls n scratches, I will send my pics of those rear wheel arches asap mate, just goes to show what can be done with a well worn in motor lol 10 out of 10
Thanks mate, not every car can be made 100% but this was very bad, most detailers just don't show these kind of pictures.
Hi mate seriously impressive, how much would you charge to detail my f1? Can pm me prices if you wish, am in kent so hopefully not to far from you.
Maybe not every car can be made 100% but you can make it 100% better. The difference is night & day. Fantastic effort as usual ed. lee
Product called Britemax Ironmax, great wheel cleaner and it turns red/purple when it hits iron deposits. Ironx is similar but smells much worse and doesn't actually clean just removes iron.
