225 Poor idle, no power, ESP and Injection warnings

  1. Hi all!

Grabbed a quick video of this

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNStTjPbtnM

Car was fine this morning, finished work and it struggled to start and then lit up with spanners triangles and all sorts! Sounded rough, and drove with absolutely no power, juddered like crazy at about 3K revs.

I thought it sounded like a misfire so have checked the connections to the coil packs and unplugged / re-plugged all sensors I can see.

From reading threads I have seen people mention crank sensor, Map sensor. Cant find any pictures to show where these are, if this problem is the same as others. Its too dark and wet outside to look into this more.

Is this the right track? Anyone know whats wrong?

  2. Sounds like its running on 3 cylinders. Bound to be a coil. Soooo common.

  3. Not sure what it is but I have an identical issue at the moment. Just replaced all coils, injectors and plugs a while back and was fine until one day last week I drove to the shops and then started like that on the way back. Sounds awful like its about to explode!

Definitely running on three and in limp mode. Saying check injection and check ESP.

Only codes in it are for throttle position?

    Any ideas anyone?

  4. Checked the coil packs by unplugging one by one. Car will not start at all with 1 or 4 unplugged but sounds the same with 2 AND 3 unplugged together so I'm not running on 3, I'm running on 2!

Could 2 coil packs give up together?

  5. Tried swapping coil packs 1 and 2, still the same. Tried swapping spark plugs 1 and 2, still the same.

Does this point to wiring? ECU?

  6. Check the wiring loom by the battery, mine corroded and gave me lots of strange faults / issues

Could have blown the head gasket between 2 and 3 cylinders

  8. I'd be very surprised if the gasket had blown ian, there not very common in these f4r engines tbh

Certainly points to something electrical as it was fine this morning and you've got a Christmas tree on your dash.

If it was a crank sensor it usually wouldn't start at all but you never know, there located on the front of the bell housing on the gearbox.

Have you had any chance to put any sort of diagnostic equipment on yet?

  9. So your fairly sure there is definitely a fault on cylinders 2 & 3. If so there are not that many things it can be. Try a compression test next then.

  10. Injectors?

  11. I limped it to my local friendly garage last night (Autohaus Werkshoppe in Coventry; can't big these guys up enough!) and he's fixed it already.

I think I need to hang up my spanners, he said he replaced all 4 coil packs and it is fine now, which means my diagnosing skills are worse than useless!

  12. Ha. Coils. Sooo common. Lol nevermind. Sorted now
