Ok basically I'm a member on a another forum, not Megane related but nissan, anyway there's an auction section where you can auction off items but there's no countdown timer. a listing was made for an item that ended tonight at 22:00 so I waited towards the end of 21:59 to make my bid, at 22:00 I started to write a post saying that I had won it but a message came up on screen telling me that I can't post right now because someone has posted a message while I was trying to post. Am I right in thinking if an auction ends at 2200 it's technically 21:59:59, even saying that I know for a fact the other bidder bided after 2200, more towards 22:00:30. the seller is in the other guys favour so is one of the admin
Depends on the time of the system , not your local machine. In theory due to NTP they should be the same.
No , you miss my point. Not all machines run the same time. Its called drift. Your local machine might report 2159 , but in actual fact its 2200. NTP is a time sync system used by machines. There is some variance depending on strontum levels and if your machine uses NTP. Its also known as w32tm on windows7 and above clients.
Ok I think I understand what you mean but on this particular forum when you post the time of post comes up, my bid was at 21:59 where as the other bider's post stated the time of 22:00, I hope I'm making sense
My understanding of an auction is if an auction ends on the hour for instance my case the end time is 22:00 not a second over
Lots of things can go wrong buddy. the actual submission of the post could have been sent and acknowledged by the server at 2159:59 , but the slight delay in the mySQL read , write , post might have wobbled over. as its literally on the hour I wouldnt read into it. If it had of been 22:04 then I would query.
Waiting til the last minute to bid had always been risky. I've done it for years on eBay and every now and then the computer will freeze etc. just a risk you take. End of the day if it's a private sale on a private forum I suppose the admin have the final say in the matter. What was it out of interest? Must have been a big sale for you to get so bent out of shape about it. Seems a tad petty from where I'm sitting.
I know what you mean but I'm going by the times recorded on the forum, the guy that bidded after me was the guy that had the highest bid before I put a bid in, being so close to the time frame when I posted the bid he must have seen my post and then put a bid in, it's the principle that got me peed, insurance, shifts that finish at midnight and auctions finish point of a second before the stated time. I know what you mean by lag time but I'm going by the recorded time on the forum. Was as a nismo steering wheel but I'm not after the item anymore just stating logically an auction stated at 22:00 technically finishes at 21:59:59 regardless of lag time, that's why I bid so late towards the end time but with margin for lag
