Parts needed to fit brake disks and pads

  1. Hi all,
I'm going to change my front pads and rear discs & pads on my megane. What tools do I require?

The front callipers just need to be released with a hex/allen key I think but not sure what size?
Is a torx bit required for the rear callipers?
What size is the large centre nut to remove the rear disks? And guess I'll need a breaker bar for this?

    Thanks in advance
    James

  2. Hi mate, you only need to remove the 2 pins in front calipers, 36mm for the rear and you will need a breaker bar, there is a guide on here for rear brakes, it's pretty easy, you need a rewind tool for rear calipers

  3. The 2 pins.. as in the pins attached to the brake pads? So I don't need to touch those hex bolts on the side, top and bottom to get the pads out?
36mm great thanks a lot, thought it may be 30mm, couldnt find a guide I will re check for it. I have the rewind tool - Thanks a lot

  4. Just need to tap the pins out, use a decent hollow ended punch and a big hammer, some come out easy others are a complete git.there is a guide on turborenault, another great site for all thing Renault, any probs, post on here or pm me

  5. there is a guide for the rear disc and pads on here mate

  6. If you bend the pins give me a shout as I do some uprated ones

  7. Remember, if you are using an R26 rear disc brake guide, the 250 rear brakes are very slightly different.

  8. I thought the calipers were the same on rear?

  9. They are. Other bits aren't.

  10. I'm considering my own pads too. If it's as simple as just tapping the pins out and swapping then I will, but do the pistons need to be pushed in when the worn pads are removed to replace with new?

  11. tap the pins out, you will need to push the pistons back in, remove the cap on reservoir and use a spanner or whatever you have to hand to push piston in, its pretty easy on the front, need a rewind tool for rear brakes.Remember to put cap back on reservoir : )

  12. Ok, sounds easy enough! Any recommendations where to get pads? Standard would probably be ok for now.

  13. Thanks a lot I've now changed the front pads, they were cracking around the edges but probably still had a good 40% left in them so was probably a bit early, never mind. The 2 top pins came out easy and the 2 bottom pins were stubborn but got them out spraying with penetrating oil, banging them, rinse and repeat for about 20 minutes each side keeping patient!

Unfortunately I don't have a breaker bar and 36mm socket yet to change the rear pads and discs. Really wanted to do it this weekend. Don't tell the girlfriend I done the front pads though she told me to wait till next week due to dry hands and a gash I got on my finger at work yesterday

  14. Try Renault Parts Direct and Road Track Race Parts

  15. Well all sorted now,
Rear brakes seemed easy enough, I was not prepared for the T60 Torx bit required to remove the fixed half of the calliper though, so a long walk to Halfords didn't help. The breaker bar I bought worked a treat with the hub nuts, its a 36mm socket for anyone wondering on the 250
