1. haha yeah I know what you mean and good work with yours, that will look sweet.

There's always another chance if/when I decide to extend the cage to redeem myself......

Yeah, I was really happy with how it worked out with Rab and the price - probably end up using him to get the rear arches resprayed at some point this year.

2. Very inspirational build. Keep up the great progress

3. Looks great Papps, forget the Red...RAL 1026 (with .R wheels done to match :cool:smile: is where its at !

I'll get a good look around it on Saturday at Knockhill.

4. Update Time:

The car had an oil change, 2 new rear calipers and new DS2500 pads on the rear. The DS1.11's on the front still have half their life left - they seem to take the track abuse in their stride......

With the AD08R track tyres on it was time for the rescheduled trackday, it was snowed off a few weeks ago.

The car performed remarkably well - being able to use the brakes fully now I'm more familar with the bucket seat and harness set up.

Managed to take almost 1.5s off my previous best lap.

Had the front dampers set very soft 4/30 and the rear much harder, around 18/30 - much better mid bend throttle adjustability, and more adjustable rear end for the direction change on the chicane.

Anyway - here's a couple of pics and videos' (duplicate from another thread)

and a video showing what the megane looks like from a spectators point of view: quite like this one.....

I have one more update in the pipeline...before I think the modifications will come to a close - I need to know when to stop - and I think it'll be a while before I am able (with tuition) to get the most of the car

I'd love to chuck all that stuff in the Trophy - I'm itching to start mine now - just gotta find a house we like and pay for it!

6. I enjoyed those vids. would love to have a go of a track like that

7. That first shot of the car.....wow. Great vids papps, also thanks for linking me to the 458 vid on YT

8. Thanks guys - glad you enjoy them also!

9. Great read! Had given me alot of info and tips on building mine now! You don't have the rear strut you used to have installed for sale by any chance? And net? Sorry I'm part collecting haha thanks Arran

10. Thanks mate!,

Sorry the strut was sold on - contact Steve1 on this if you'd like one made up....I got it from him.

I still have the net, but not selling as of yet - will let you know if I do decide to part ways with it though

11. Update Time:

It's been a little since I updated this....

I was a naughty boy in January time and put an order in for a set of AST5100 kit with the top mounts - they eventually turned up, albeit with the wrong rear springs (8kg) I had ordered 10kg rears....

Anyway here they are in all their glory - they are too good to be put on a car....

Has these fitted not at my usual go to of Rentec, but at SWR RenaultSport Specialists in Stirling - they ran a BTCC Accord race car and have more of a motorsport pedigree for suspension set up:

The new geometry is a slight tweak on the previous versions I had been running..

Its now -2.5 degrees camber up front (was -2.0)

Toe is now -0.5mm on each side (4 minutes on each side, so -8minutes in totaly), was previously 5 minutes on each side, so -10mins total - so not much real change here.

The printout:

AST didn't supply the rear axle bolt for the rear damper mounting, so I had Rentec in Edinburgh order a 10.9 Tensile set for me, and while the car was in to attend to the brakes...

The R26.R discs had seen 14 hours of tracktime, were fully worn and also had hairline fractures in them.......so they had to go.

So off with the expensive R26.R discs and on with the a lot cheaper and more robust HC plain Brembo Discs...

Pads were down to 35% or so, and they didn't look too great when they came off anyways, so it was like for like, and new DS1.11's went on the front as well. Call JJC Race and Rally and ask for a discount on them  - never ask, never get and all that

Went for a slightly more uprated fluid, RBF660 instead of RBF600, price different with OPIE's discount is negligible, and with my better track braking technique, I had been able to make the pedal go really long with the RBF600 so thought it was worth going up a step in terms of its boiling points.

Now that the car was ready, it was time to test and get used to the new suspension set up - and I managed to squeeze in a very late notice 6pm-8pm tracknight at knockhil this week..

For a few reasons: fatigue, my own analysis of maybe slightly too aggressive driving in the last outing on my part & also sadly a nasty crash involving one of the clio guys up here last week meant I wasn't as 'on it' as I had been, often backing off in certain situations, and not trying to pass certain cars/drivers. I guess the new suspension also needs time to get fully used to.....as you see me miss my turn in's, or adjusting my line on the turn in as the new suspension will of course take a little of getting used to

This also wasn't my usual private tracknights that I attend at KH - it was one of their own ones, and I saw/heard a few things early on that made me take a little more care during the night....standards and ability varied lets say

Anyway, here's a couple of clean ish laps....

and then what the last 10 minutes looks like after we've just been let out again following a short red flag - you'll see this doesn't end well.....

Car needs a clean badly, apart from that, I'll be maybe fitting a sunstrip, but its going to be trackdays and detailing for the foreseeable future

Thanks for reading!

12. Awesomeness in the asts. Had me on my old Clio. Epic. If only I could justify a set....

13. Suspension looks brilliant mate, turn in looks so sharp too. It'll certainly take a bit of getting used to, you'll soon be flying out of the chicane when you're more settled with them.

Looked a really busy night, decent weather for a change too.

The shunt was a bit of mess !

14. A little bit of trackday racing going wrong.

15. Hello A,

How did you put -2deg of camber before the AST kit? Anything to sell maybe?

S.

16. He had BC Coilovers

17. Great write up ,thanks for taking the time to share .

19. Update time:

Wanted to go back to a more agressive trackday tyre, so decided to take the plunge with R888-R in 225 40 18 92Y config, GG compound.

Local Mobile tyre fitting specialist at knockhill really done us proud with the price - not a lot more than PS2s would of been from blackcircles.

For the record - they came with 5.0-5.5mm

As the AD08Rs have loads of life, and I thought the PilotSuperSports would be easier of the tyres to sell if I decided to, I stuck the 888s on the OEM rims

Myself and a couple of other megs had a little 2 hour tracknight at knockhill this week, which was a hell of a lot of fun...

Managed to get a good stint chasing a Megane 265 CUP (B14s, decat, RC6, pax, road tyres std map) vs my R26 - the MG only splits us for 30 seconds, normal service is resumed after that - A lot of fun

We both carded low 1.03s laps the first lap after the warm up = great to see a mk3 megane being thrown around a track - though I'm scared for a pax ride in one, as I'm worried I'd want one too badly haha

A couple of pics from the night

21. Little Update:

I really wasn't getting on too well at all with the HC Plain Brembo discs (previously used the R26.R ones with DS1.11) - they were getting so hot after 5 or 6 mins that I was actually getting practically no retardation at 60mph on a 110-35mph stop - a bit worrying. Here's a little video comparison of the HC Brembo Discs (1.) and the R26.R Discs (2.)

So ended up opting for a cheap option of the new 312mm J Hook discs from Godspeed, as the DS1.11 pads had loads of life left and would of wanted new pads if I had shelled out £550+ for a 330mm kit.

Felt good when I bedded them in, felt even better when I managed to track them - I do like the grating feel that grooves give you under heavy breaking on track as well, in a way its kind of comforting.

Had a custom cruise control bracket made up, with buttons, and wired to keep the cruise control and horn when applying the renaultsport sabelt steering wheel..Very pleased with the finished result to say the least!

These wheels aren't great without gloves, but with gloves, they are outstanding and very grippy, but a much nicer feel.

20160629_102854-1_zpsymf5pnhr.jpg

Little clip from an evening 2 hour session last week - a little bit damp, but the R888-R's were great, as long as there's no standing surface water, they seem to perform very well!

22. Fantastic car mate, this is a great inspiration for my own R26 track car! I think I have read this thread about 100 times now! Keep updating

Best regards from Sweden

23. How are you getting on with the R888R's? I have only done 5 laps on my ones but seem to be very forgiving and very progressive grip characteristics which I like. What pressures were you running?

24. Steering wheel looks brilliant mate, that was my next move if I was keeping the car.

The switchgear on it is a fantastic touch too !
