R26 Oil staining to engine/ head gasket seal

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Pagey3103, Jun 21, 2015.

  1. I replaced my coils over the weekend and when they were removed in noticed a lot of dirt and what I thought were oil stains along the joint of the top of the engine and the head gasket. No other oil stains anywhere.

The staining runs along the full length (front, side and reckon rear) of the gasket where the top plate is bolted to the head gasket. The photos show what I mean

the staining I refer to is right next to where the coils plug in.

Any one know if is this a common issue and does it need immediate attention.

You say head gasket do you mean rocker cover /breather housing From the pics? I think that gasket is cork an soaks up oil over time hence the staining.

  3. Yeah it's the top gasket, so nothing to worry about just needs a clean ?

  4. Pretty common. Give the bolts a gentle nip if need be. Its a rubber coated metal gasket. Ive had a few leaking from the bolt threads too.

  5. Ok thanks fellas. I'll give it a tighten and clean my engine
