hi all just wonder what is the max power you can run through the standard pistons I'm in the process of getting the rods swapped out for Manley forged rods, but can find no concrete info about oem pistons max power about cracking or melting any info would be great cheers.
from what I have concluded from many read threads..300bhp seems to be the upper ceiling for the pistons on a mk2..and obviously you have already dealt with the biggest weak spot in the rods..
It's not so much that 300hp is the limit for the OEM Pistons, it's the fuel system. A swirl pot with a proper external pump and uprated rail is worth it at 300hp and upwards
Yeah I've been told about the fueling side of things buddy, it's just the case of is there a safe limit before piston failure I'm looking to find out
Yes there is, as said before. They even fail at standard power as they are piss poor. But why on earth would you want to fit standard pistons if you're fitting manley rods?
Why the hell you been cocky? I'm just asking genuine questions, I knew there was a reason I don't use forums often just full of dicks like you
Lol, you ask a genuine question, get a genuine answer and then question that. Why would you ask the question in the first place?
Yeah that's the reason mines getting rebuilt had no compression, in cylinder 1+4 due to the rings lol
300 hp is pushing whats a 225 can cope with, without a diff. I have driven a lot of stage 2 225`s,and find them a right handful on full chat. Struggling to get out of corners, and lifting the front when applying the power feels quite unnerving. I Find my R26 with 270hp/280lb/ft has a very nice balance,as well as that stage of tune being inplace for over 5 years.
