Number plate light & sidelight

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by Damian.H, May 4, 2015.

  1. Hi, recently noticed one of my front h/lights didn't look right when driving home from work. The n/side sidelight was out plus the rear n/plate (n/side too).

I changed the n/plate lamp. Nothing. But the bullet and removed the battery and ecu etc, checked all the fuses but they are ok. The usual 7.5 ones I've seen people mention appear to have been replaced with 10's.

Put it it all back together and no change. Any ideas? My MOT has now runout so I can't use it! Nightmare!

    Any ideas?!? Please!

  2. Check the wiring at the roof to hatch. Could have chaffed where it bends.

I'd also swap the complete bulb holders over and see if the duff on works. If it does you know for sure it's a supply problem. Indeed check another bulb at the front light. I doubt the sidelight and number plate light are on the same circuit.

Is there a common ground for them?

  3. I think they do share the same circuit. Lots of people mention losing a sidelight when the n/plate bulb goes. I'm just pissed off that it took ages removing everything to check the fuses but they were ok.

  4. Are these tail sidelights or front sidelights?

I'd work the number plate light problem first. Check that wiring. If you have a voltmeter check the voltage across the plug or if not change the good bulb holder over then if that works try the actual bulb in the original holder that isn't working. They can get quite corroded. I've actually changed both my bulb holders.

  5. Just the front n/side sidelight. Rears are fine. I've ordered a new n/plate loom as the old one was past it's best. Hopefully being on the same circuit means the s/light may be fixed too.

  6. Did you get this sorted bud? Got my sidelight and number plate light out. Also dimmer switch wont work and ive checked all the ballache fuses in the engine bay and they are fine. Deffo not my bulb so wondering now if they are on the same circuit and could be my nplate loom too.

  7. I ended up replacing the number plate loom as the old one was rotten. Seemed to cure the problem but what a pain in the arse!
