My finance is not due till January but I fancy a change but I'm still very undecided on what to do so would like your opinions. I currently have my 265 on a PCP and I will be looking to sell it and pay the settlement figure and nearly get the deposit I put down back so Its like i pretty much leased it for 2yrs. My problem is what do I get next I personally want a bit more luxury, its got to be a 5dr with the littlen on the way and still has to excite me on a weekend blat. The big sticking point is the price I personally don't want to spend more than £300 a month and it has to be new. So to get it at that price for new I'm obviously going to have to get a lease deal. The only two cars that fit the bill are BMW m135i which I have grown to, obviously not great looking but practical, sound and fit n finish is great and a vw golf r hatch which again I have grown to and is very practical but there are just too many about of which wouldnt make me care for it as much I expect. What would you guys do?
For me personally, having gone from a Renaultsport megane 225 to a BMW E46 M3 and having driven the new golf r, I would go with the BMW, The experience you get driving them is like no other IMO, they are great drivers cars, I dont think you will regret it if you did go down that route!!
Personally I would go with the golf R. I think the BMW will be more exciting to drive but I've always thought the M135i has too much power for a small RWD car, I can imagine it catching me out one day when I wasn't on the ball and binning it. Altho Ill throw in a curve ball- the Leon Cupra 280, although boring to look at, its apparently quicker on track than the R and assuming you get a manual more involving.
My mate has just got rid of his golf R as he's getting the M4 but believe me that R is a superb all rounder. It's quick, very quick (DSG) handles easily on par with the megane and stops very well. For me personally I liked it that much it's one of my "maybe" next cars. Only thing that puts me off like you say is they're common and I don't think they look that special. A GTD looks better.
The Mrs wants the beamer as apparently the golf looks 'chavvy' and she'll be driving it most of the time. I'm guessing the focus rs will be well over £300 a month so I guess that will be out of the question plus if it was under £300 it would be another golf r,fiesta st or focus St where there everywhere
dont discount 3 door just because you have a child on the way. I always found getting a baby in and out of a baby seat easier in a 3 door than a 5 door because you have access to the baby seat from the front rather than the side
I do prefer the look of a 3dr but the seats would get on my nerves, my front seats dont lock into position so are forever sliding back and every time I actually would have to get into the rear and probably catch my back while reversing out. Id forgot about the Leon cupra I'd did have a test drive booked to drive both manual and dsg but the dsg sold in the morning so I left it, definitely prefer the looks compared to the m135i but as mine is mapped I don't know if 276bhp is enough and with it bring leased there is no chance of mapping it, I think I'm going to call my local dealerships and arrange a few test drives when I get a weekend free from work
A guy at my work bought a brand new mk7 golf r November last year and already said he wants rid of it, speaking to him just yesterday about it lol. He said it's fast but really quite boring to drive, and he got the manual.. He said it's like it does everything to easy haha, hasn't really fell in love with it and doesn't actually look forward to driving it. Doesn't know what it is really. His old car was a beast of a 265 Cupra R remapped and modded to 380 bhp but he says he doesn't even want to start modding the golf cause he wants rid even though he had big plans for it before he bought it... He was also looking at a m135i and he said he wish he went with that for the RWD!
I went from a rs250 cup mapped to 285 to a 280 Leon cupra last year, i admit its no where near as nice to look at, but the power comes in a lot lower and pulls like a train. Tracked it at brands hatch and i found it just as fast and easy to lap with as the Megane. PS mines a 3 door manual.
