Hi im a newbie to the 225 and the forum, just had it over 3 weeks now but ive got a few issues. Bought her with a power steering fault, turned out to be the colum so had that changed and its all good now. But along with this the car had a bit of a misfire which now that the cars driveable is much more apparent and needs sorting. Im sure its been up a million times but just looking for some further advice from you guys. So it boosts well under half throttle and holds boosts as normal till around 7k. but if I try planting my foot down completely it just misfires and splutters. If I take off with full throttle (on a dry day of coarse) all is well till around 3k and she splutters and misfires, so it seems to occur in low and high revs just depends on how much throttle is applied. So had the fault codes read and came up with misfire on cylinder 1. So I swapped over coil pack 1 and 4 thought it would point me in the right direction but car still drives the same and I put it back on the code reader and im still getting the same cylinder 1 misfire. Im baffled, I thought if it was coil then the swap would have shown on the reader. So im thinking is it the injector? Just want to try and be more sure about it instead of forking out for stuff I cant afford lol
I'd change the spark plugs for a new set or as a minimum inspect the current spark plugs as they will tell you a story or two. Id they all look ok then put back and swap no1 spark plug to another cylinder and see if fault follows. If it still shows a misfire on no1 then I'd check the wiring loom to the coil pack on cylinder1 for damage/corrosion etc. If this is ok, A compression across all cylinders would also help before you start spending silly money. Compressions gauges are no expensive. Of course you could also swap injectors around too but if you are going to that effort you may as well replace/refurb them all. The above is easy to do and should take you more than 20minutes. Hope this helps.
