  1. Hi lads, just a quick introduction, I've been a Renault fan for a long time, going all the way back to a Renault 5 GT Turbo I used to own about 15 years ago now, owned various hot hatches, Pulsar GTiR, Punto GT and a RS Megane 225 Trophy.

Been running round in a C2 VTS whilst I was saving for a house, but now I'm sorted I've gone back to a Megane, a 2L 180 TCe Coupe, not strictly an RS I know, but it feels almost as quick as the mapped Trophy I had and is perfect for me now I'm the wrong side of 30.

I've got fairly extensive mechanical knowledge so will try and help out where ever I can.

  2. Welcome to the Forum Gary. What number was your old Trophy?

    Welcome Gary!

  4. Weirdly enough I was just trying to remember the number, I remember the registration but can't for the life of me remember the number.

Is it stepping on anyone's toes posting the reg number see if it's still around? I just checked on the gov website and it's MOT'd till August but the tax expired on Feb 1st

  5. its not mine then my mot is april

  6. Hi, welcome mate.

Post a couple of pics of the 180 if you fancy - nice to see something different.

  7. I'll get some up at the weekend once it's had a wash.

Got a couple of little cosmetic mods to do (LED DRL bulbs instead of the standard P21W, and remove the Megane letters off the boot) then I might flirt with the idea of a map even though the low down torque is really impressive already, 300nm from 2250rpm, also impressed with the handling considering it's all completely standard, body roll is really minimal yet still takes rough roads in it's stride, not sure how the MK3 RS's ride, but it seems an improvement over the MK2 to me.

  8. Some pics of the old RS and some old cars in the mean time if anyone is interested:

Oh and the best shot of the GTiR:

Of all of them, I think I miss the Punto the most

Mapped to 165bhp and weighed the same as an empty crisp packet, so much fun. No pics of the Renault 5 unfortunately.

  9. The Trophy had a Fastchip remap to around 265bhp, the GTiR was tuned by Abbey Motorsport, RR'd at 299bhp, one short of the magical 300 lol, but was no where near as quick as the Trophy point to point.

I honestly believe none of them could've shaken off the little Punto, remapped and running 30psi on the standard turbo (set up through an old school bleed valve) all day long.

Just found a pic of an old Zetec S I had for a bit:

  10. I was always a fan of the Punto, and the Uno before it, though never had one. Interesting comments on the more powerful cars not shaking the Fiat - I think my old 172 would keep up with a Megane R26 on most roads because of the size, brakes and tenacity, same.

Like the Pulsar - what's with the umbrella storage lol?

    Hi and welcome Gary

I had 4 Uno turbo's in the past but never even driven a Punto GT, the wife had an active sport for 8 years, tried to get her to get a Punto GT but wouldn't, she now has a Stilo Abarth and that is great fun with the paddle shift.

  12. Ooh I had a punto gt3

Loved that thing, I'll find some pics from back in the day

I also had the twin magnex de catted, flames and everything ;-)

  13. Haha yep mine was a magnex decat as well, SEB2 chip and FMIC, used to fly!

The Pulsar brolly holder is just a Japanese 'quirk' but the Nissan umbrella was included with all new GTiR's from the factory, a la Rolls Royce lol!
