New to forum from New Zealand

  1. Hi All,
4 weeks into Megane ownership now, and really loving the car. It's more than I expected, especially after my first (and probably only 1 in this car - you'll see why) track day yesterday - that'll be a subject of another post in the appropriate section when I get time.....

I have a stable of performance cars - 3 collectables, a race car and a ute for service/tow duties.
The Megane is the perfect modern everyday driver for me (kinda like a modern-day ITR DC2)

Gripes? None really, except that ride on the 19s could be an issue if you weren't hard core. And the gear shift is definitely not as precise and accurate like the birlliant one in the Integra. Not a problem until you are really pushing things along on the track (I almost pulled 2nd instead of 4th yesterday (well I did, but extremely momentarily!)

Looking forward to interacting with you here. If any of you have any VAG cars, drop into the NZ forum at vask.org.nz - a small quiet high quality hangout. Plenty of knowledgable people there.

  2. Welcome, would I be right in guessing that they aren't all that common over in NZ ?

  3. Very rare on our roads, which is part of the attraction. GTi Golf's everywhere!

  4. Hi and welcome.

    Nice collection there.

  5. GTi Golf's are common everywhere, it's what draws me to cars the the Megane RS, i hadn't seen one before i saw mine up for sale and had to have it.

Same as when i had my RX7 back in 2001

  7. Welcome - comparing it to a DC2 is a massive compliment indeed - I tracked a DC2 a long time ago when they were officially imported in the UK and it was sublime, it wouldn't understeer and the rear was so mobile under braking, it was a proper drivers' car although a bit of q challenge at the limit, contrary to popular belief (including our resident chump's).

  8. Hi nickfrog,
I don't agree about the DC2 being a bit of a challenge at the limit, unless you have stiffened the rear significantly relative to the front compared to factory spec, in which case you will struggle with oversteer.
The DC2 is a wonderfully communicative chassis that is very forgiving on the limit unless you ignore the signals...and it resonds perfectly to the correct inputs.
Why Honda decided to put what is effectively a race suspension (in the Type R) into a street car (the DC2) is beyond me but thank god they did!
In the DC5 the accountants took over and they ruined it - still a very good car, but those who try and tune it for racing struggle to set it up. Far more difficult than the DC2.

  9. By challenge, I meant it in a good way!!! I meant it's alive and takes part in the action compared to inert and understeery front drivers.

  10. Ah, in that case we agree
